Introduction:

Gravity is the force that everyone on Earth is aected by it. It is also

one of the common force that human should know. It is a force that pulls
object on the Earth towards its core which enable humans, animals and
other living thing to perform daily activities such as walking, eating,
drinking and much more.

In our lesson of physics, we are learning about free fall state of an

object. The free fall state is when an object is dropped down from the air
without any air resistance. The free fall state has the stable acceleration as
the acceleration of the gravity which is 9.8 meters per second squared. In
this case, to simplify that, we use 10 meter per second squared instead for
the convenience.

The experiment that we were about to perform will be testing on

dropping 2 dierent types of balls which have dierent weight. To have a
good result, we would have to drop it from the 4th oor. We hope that we
could perform the experiment correctly and also be able to learn a lot of
knowledge from this experiment.

Material/Setup:

Material Setup
3 volleyballs Football eld
3 footballs fourth oor

phones
measuring tape
Procedure:

1. Prepare the job of each person:

Timer A: Drop the ball
Timer B: Record data
Timer C: Measure the height from the 4th oor
Ball Collector
2. The timers go prepare at the 4 th oor and the ball boy
go to prepare at the football eld.
3. The timers drop the measuring tape to the football eld
for measuring the height of the building.
4. The timers will drop volleyballs for three time.
5. The timers records the time and record the data.
6. The timers will drop footballs for three times.
7. The timers records the time and record the data.
8. The timers calculate the average time, distance and
percent dierent.
9. The ball boy collect the ball and go back to the room.
Data and Result / Conclusion:

Heavy Ball

Light Ball
Objective:

To prove that, whether the mass of an object has an

eect on the speed of falling or not

To see if the fall time could be used to calculate the

height of the building correctly or not.

To be able to use the formula to calculate the distance by

using time and acceleration correctly.

To understand the the gravity has a stable acceleration

of about 10 meters per second squared

Get more knowledge and understand about the lesson on

free fall and linear movement.
Analysis and Result:

From the experiment, we could conclude that:

Each heavy balls took similar time until the balls drop
onto the oor. The average time of the balls are 1.73 seconds,
1.873 seconds and 1.896 seconds, respectively. The distance
calculated from each trials are 15, 17.5 and 18 of the same
order. The dierence percentage from the actual distance of the
height of heavy ball is 14.46493% more.

For light balls have the similar average of time which are
1.963 seconds, 1.947 seconds and 1.91 seconds, respectively. The
distance calculated from each trials are 18.9 meters, 18.6 meters
and 17.9 meters, respectively. The dierence percentage from the
actual distance of the height of the light ball is 25.47% more.

We can see that even though those ball are the same type and
have the same weight, the time that it took until it drops to the
oor diers a little bit. We can also see that both type of the ball
still share the similar result.

Conclusion:

This free fall experiment really taught us many knowledge.

This experiment showed that the mass of the object didnt aect
the speed of falling. Instead, the only thing that aected is the
gravity. The formula for calculating the distance didnt have
that much accuracy since the time we recorded werent that
accurate.

After the experiment, we are able to use formulas more

correctly than before. This would make us do better in the exam
and upcoming tests. In addition, we are able to remember the
acceleration of gravity and know that gravity really has a stable
acceleration. Lastly, we are able to learn a lot of things from this
experiment.
