EXPERIENCE
Team Member, Loyola Law School Byrne Trial Advocacy Team
Los Angeles, CA
Being on Loyola’s trial advocacy team gave me the opportunity to try cases in a
competitive setting against students from other law schools. In preparing for
competitions, I developed a theory for my case, performed factual and evidentiary
analysis, practiced witness preparation, and drafted motions in limine, opening
statements, direct and cross examinations, and closing arguments. Between team
practices and mock trials, I trained 35 hours per week for NITA’s Tournament of
Champions and TYLA’s National Trial Competition. (June 2009 – May 2010)

Student Mediator, Loyola Law School Center for Conflict Resolution

Los Angeles, CA
After completing 30 hours of mediation training, I spent over 80 hours during the
course of the semester volunteering at Loyola’s nonprofit Center for Conflict Resolution.
The Center focuses on providing alternate dispute resolution services to the entire Los
Angeles community. I conciliated conflicts between multiple parties over the phone,
helped with face to face mediations, and submitted notes and reports on all casework.
Conflicts included domestic issues, debt collections, landlord-tenant matters, paternity
disputes and more. (August – December 2009)

Litigation Intern, Phoenix Books and Audio, Inc.

Beverly Hills, CA
During the summer between my second and third years I worked for the general
counsel of a mid-sized publishing house. I gained experience drafting and responding
to form and special interrogatories, requests for admissions, and requests for
production of documents. In addition, I prepared various pre-trial motions and
responses to motions by opposing counsel, including motions for summary judgment. I
assisted the general counsel in preparing for depositions, filing motions, and
performing document review. (May – September 2009)

Volunteer, General Relief Advocacy Project

Los Angeles, CA
Throughout my first year I participated in the Loyola’s Public Interest Law Foundation
monthly trips to the county’s Department of Social Services’ downtown General Relief
Office. The student volunteers acted as advocates for the disadvantaged to ensure the
receipt of their entitled assistance. (November 2007 – April 2008)
