Reflection 1

Students will be able to read and use scholarly texts to support their writing goals.

I do believe I met the first course goal. In every single major paper weve written its

been required to have citations from our textbook and/or outside scholarly texts. This course has

taught me how to choose reliable scholarly texts and how to properly cite them using APA. Also,

how to properly incorporate them into my assignment to create logos throughout your paper.

Placing a citation while giving reasoning for its significance adds tremendous credibility to your

assignment. I feel that I had a mild understanding of this and that this course gave me reason to

comprehend why I would use a scholarly article to support my text. Whereas before I thought it

was just a chore to meet the grade I wanted.

The lectures/discussions about scholarly articles and how to use Google Scholar and the

UCF library website helped introduce me to proper credible research. Assignment three proved

my mastery to use scholarly texts. Here I had to take a text I researched and found and us it to

analyze another text from a chosen community. This showed my proficiency on how to use

proper portions of the researched text to support my claims.

Students will be able to describe and analyze writing processes to flexibly adapt them to

support their goals.

Yes, I feel proficient in describing and analyzing writing processes to flexibly adapt them

to support my goals. I described my writing process in the second major paper. I was also able to

analyze my own writing process during this assignment, and we later went on to analyze other

texts from chosen communities and in peer reviews. I feel like I can still do this and will

continue doing this even in non-writing classes.

Analyzing the restaurant menu my professor brought in really helped me connect

concepts from this class to outside applications. Broadening my view on the class and begin to

understand the purpose of the class as a whole.

Students will learn how to adapt to different writing contexts they need to address.

I feel accomplished that I have learned to adapt to different writing contexts. I believe

that I have adapted to different writing contexts because not a single assignment given by

professor Pierson was similar, I had to change my approach and thought process for every paper.

For example, some paper required more incubation just to understand the idea of the assignment

while others were more straight forward yet more research oriented. This has made me more of

diverse writer in the fact that I can adapt depending upon the situation.

I thought that the third major paper was the best representation of this. The beginning of

the assignment was group based with a given analytic then it branched into another paper that

was individual. The group was received an analytic to use but for the individual we had to pick

one on our own to use. This was challenging for me because I felt like I lacked knowledge on the

community, but I realized it gave me a different approach to my paper then others and allowed

me to have a different perspective. This assignment demonstrates my ability to adapt to different

writing concepts.
The time professor took to describe what she wants out of each major paper really helped

me expand my writing and reach her standards. The outlines, detailed assignment descriptions,

and rubric really helped me write all my papers making sure I hit every single part of the

different papers, helping me expand to different writing concepts.

Students will consider how social, rhetorical, and technological contexts shape writing

conceptions, processes, rules, and learning.

I believe that I consider how social, rhetorical, and technological contexts shape writing

conceptions, processes, rules, and learning. I feel that these considerations are mostly done by

the professor, but its translated to the students. I think that this translation

I feel assignment four demonstrates understanding of this goal because I analyzed an

assignment from a non-writing course outside of UCF. This community differs from the writing

community which I have been analyzing. It differs socially, rhetorically, and technologically.

Thus, this assignment was written differently because I had to utilize different concepts,

processes and rules. For example, the assignment was a media journal where I had to editorialize

politics. Here, I use different leaning styles to learn different lexis and concepts in the class

compared to an ENC assignment.

I think the readings about communities and Discourses helped me reach this goal by

understanding different groups of people and why these different group interact the way they do.

Explanations by my professor always facilitate my understanding of how the concepts can be

applied outside of class.
