Summary
What happens in the classroom now, impacts the world in the future. On the teaching pro-
gram at GVI Cape Town this month, our impact is already being revealed. Throughout the
month, we assessed our students in the subjects of mathematics and English and are over-
joyed with the progress which they are currently making; since March, the average English
results have improved by 14.42%, and the average mathematics by 25.58%.

Report
English and mathematics are crucial skills for a child to learn and are indisputably important
subjects for future successes. English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the
world and is used in an abundance of fields, including entertainment, trade, finance and
tourism. By being able to speak, read and write in English many opportunities are unlocked.
The same applies to arithmetic; not only does maths help support educational develop-
ment, but its also a necessity in the workplace and in daily life. Our One to One teaching

GVI.2017.1
programme which helps struggling students improve in both subject areas is vital because of
these reasons.

This month on the Teaching program, as per routine, we assessed our students on their Eng-
lish and mathematics and are proud with the results which they attained.

These results are truly brilliant, and it fills us at the Cape Town Hub with a sense of over-
flowing pride. It is confirmation that the arduous work and dedication that our students,
staff, volunteers and partners put in is making a valuable difference.

I am grateful for all those incredible teaching volunteers that have supported our work over
the course of the last 6 months. Their determination, hard work and patience has been
wonderful.
They certainly are the difference!
