TEKS/SEs: 5A: Solve linear equations in one variable, including those for which the application of the
distributive property is necessary and for which variables are included on both sides.
Lesson objective(s): Using manipulatives, students will learn to solve linear equations with one variable.
Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs: All type three type of learning styles will be used.
Auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning will happen with all of the different activities.
ENGAGEMENT/Exploration 3minutes
Given manipulatives, in groups, students will create a simple, addition, subtraction problem. (Example: My
dad owes me 15$ (therefore the manipulatives will be red) and he pays me 7$ (7 green manipulatives). Then
what happens? Subtract seven red squares from 15 green manipulatives, therefore I have 8 red
manipulatives, therefore my dad owes me still 8$.
EXPLORATION 3minutes

ELABORATION 25 Minutes
Using the manipulatives, students will solve the worksheet working with their shoulder partner (student and
teacher).
EVALUATION 3 Minutes
Teacher will give one problem to all students to submit on a sticky note. This become their exit ticket.
