Dear Sir/Ma,

APPLICATION FOR THE POSITION OF ASSISTANT SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNING

BOARDS

I write to apply for the position of Assistant Secretary to the Governing Boards as advertised on the
Commonwealth Secretariat website.

I have about two years experience in providing administrative and organizational support such as
manual/electronic documentation, labelling, report production, updating database among others, in an
office environment. I have a bachelors degree from a reputable Nigerian private university.

During my degree program, I had the privilege of working in a major teaching hospital in Lagos state (Lagos
University Teaching Hospital-LUTH) for a six months Industrial Training (I.T) course. As an intern, my basic
responsibilities were more of documentation and arrangement of test results (manually and
electronically), receiving, labelling and appropriately arranging samples and also paying close observation
to procedures carried out by the scientists in the various departments I worked. Due to the sensitive
nature of that section of the hospital, theres zero tolerance for mistakes/small errors so we were trained
to completely avoid them. This experience helped me develop the ability of paying close attention to
details, accurately following procedures, time management, working under supervision and as part of a
team, having an excellent interpersonal relationship/communication skill among others.

After obtaining my bachelors degree, during my National Youth Service program I worked as a Quality
Control personnel in the Quality Assurance/Quality Control department of a pharmaceutical company.
My duties here included; sample collection of raw materials, intermediate and finished products for
analysis, very cautious and detailed result presentation, interpretation and documentation both manually
and electronically, forwarding results to the QA manager for cross-check and endorsement. Through this
experience, I was able to develop the ability of working on own initiative, multi-tasking, making decisions
in challenging circumstances and working comfortably under pressure.

After my National Youth Service program, I had a brief stint with a private medical diagnostics outfit. With
the previous experiences gained I was able to carry out my responsibilities efficiently. Here, I helped to
develop and implement a new format for result presentation to aid easy interpretation. I created an
accurate and well organized database for test and result documentation to aid swift tracking of patients
report history easily, using the computer. I later resigned from the job so I could seek an opportunity to
get more exposure and undertake new challenges.

One of my strengths is my ability to multi-task and carry out diverse range of administrative
responsibilities in a timely and effective manner. I have also demonstrated that I am keen to take initiative
or work collaboratively with other members of staff to make office processes as efficient as possible. I am
proficient with administrative tools like MS office programs. I am always willing and ready to learn new
things, get exposed and take challenges. I am also passionate about building cordial working relationships
with colleagues and stakeholders. I put people at ease with my friendly and professional manner.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing my candidacy with your
organization.

Yours Faithfully,

Kanu Michael C.
