information

ATTENTION The screenshots shown in the manual are only examples. It is possible that
not all parameters in screenshots are available in the actual software
version you are using (DS4200 CD). Please refer to the radios operating
manual related to your software version.

3.1 Introduction

3.1.1 Basic Setup Files/Cloning Parameters

General The complete radio configuration can be read out from an existing radio and
can be saved as a file with the extension .cln.
Note: Cloning files with the .clo extension, created by previous versions
of the R&S ZS 4200 application (v7.0.3.0 and older), can be used for
uploading of the configuration to the radio as well.
The cloning feature is very helpful for replacing defective radios in a rack.
The radio can be loaded with user-defined settings.
Note: The parameters, specific for each radio, will not be cloned. For
example the TCXO (and OCXO, if installed), IP address, etc. For the
complete list, please refer to the operating manual of the radio.

ATTENTION A cloning file must be used only with the CommandSet version applied
during creation of the cloning file. The cloning file must be also used with
the same device type (VHF, UHF). Otherwise, using the cloning file with
another CommandSet version and/or device type can lead to an
unexpected behaviour of the R&S ZS 4200 application and/or the radio.

3.1.2 Software Download from CD ROM

General The R&S ZS 4200 provides an automatic software download procedure that
compares the current software versions of the radio with the software
package contained on the R&S CD ROM.
New radios are always delivered with the latest R&S software version
already installed. If desired, the customer can decide to install another
software package using the R&S CD ROM.

3.1 6174.7850.02.02
R&S ZS 4200

3.1.3 Access Levels and Categories

General The following access levels and categories are supported:

Non-Interactive access for adjustment of equipment
Interactive access for the basic parameter setup
Local mode for operational parameters modification
Remote mode for operational parameters modification
Software download
Remote software update
Activation/Deactivation of options (only via USB connection)

3.1.3.1 Non-Interactive Access

General Remote or local control sessions will not be interrupted. The maintenance
engineer can adjust parameters and clear the event log of the radio.
Reading The following parameters can only be read:
of parameters
Hardware/software configuration
CBIT status report and event log
Session status; which RC/FM clients are connected to the radio
All basic setup parameters; can be used for "cloning" radios
200 preset parameters
Get maintenance time and date
Setting For example, the following parameters can be set (only via USB interface,
of parameters Remote mode or Interactive access is needed in LAN interface):
Adjust TCXO (and OCXO, if installed)
Adjust audio line levels for a receiver and transmitter
Clear event log of radio modules

3.1.3.2 Interactive Access

General The Interactive access via USB interface does not support any remote
sessions, i.e. all IP LAN connections will be interrupted, by entering this
mode.
The Interactive access via LAN interface has no influence to the USB
session. However, if there is another LAN session using the remote control
session, or the device is already in the Interactive mode via USB interface
or the radio is in the Local mode, the Interactive mode via LAN interface can
not be entered and will be refused by the radio.
Leaving the Interactive mode on both interfaces (USB and LAN) will restart
the radio.

6174.7850.02.02 3.2
R&S ZS 4200

For example, the following basic parameters are programmable:

3.3.3 Configuration

General The detailed description of parameters could be found in the operating

manual (see chapter 3.3).
Function The radio configuration can be read out from an existing transmitter,
receiver or transceiver devices and can be saved to a file (either cloning file
".cln", binary file ".bks" or text file ".txt"). The R&S ZS 4200 supports an
editor for changing parameters, which approves the correctness of the
entries such as value range, etc.
The cloning feature is very helpful for replacing defective radios in a rack.
Scenarios of configuration data handling are managed by means of profiles
that define which values are taken into consideration.

Note: Last maintenance date will be updated with every write to the radio.
Any interactions with the device are stored to the application log file.
