Genetic Mutation

I remember reading something about cancer cells being used to make the "elite" into
basically zombies, but enhanced or something.
Kazuya
Yeah, we need to find this information, perhaps it's already somewhere on the net?
thedoctor It has everything, but the most vital is the "military studies" tab, however, all the tabs
are vital because it includes a lot of digging and comparing, it's not so oblique, and as
for now I think the best bet is to hack the CDC and see the lab results on genetic
mutations and pathology and also hidden archives on lets say "experiments gone
wrong" .

Some background first: I worked for a bio-tech company that utilized a process called
ion differentiation in order to decode DNA and RNA sequences. This technology, called
the Ion Torrent, could sequence a human DNA strand in a little over an hour and cost
about $500 a run. For reference, a human DNA strand contains somewhere upwards of
10^6 bases, hereafter referred to as megabases. Most viruses are in the kilobases (10^3).
The study of these decoded strands is called DNA informatics and is a growing area of
study in the bio-tech field. The science behind the process is a little complex so I won't
go into it here. Anyone interested can send me a message.
Now to the point. Many of the major bio-tech companies have their own databases of
decoded DNA and RNA strands that have been cross-referenced to identify the
functions of various base sequences. However, since the information is of professional
interest, these companies do not share the findings. The easiest way to identify a
specific human-caused mutation would be to access several of the databases and
compare the various findings. However, it would take an enormous amount of
computing power to be able to do this so unless someone out there has access to
multiple super computers, it would't be feasible. It would be easier to cross-reference
the general reports from each study in order to identify any anomalies. If someone feels
up to the challenge, I can supply a list of companies that would have any of the
pertinent information.
It is conceivable that a company with access to enough samples could correctly identify
certain sequences and then re-engineer to serve a pre-determined purpose. The
technology for this has been available for years. Hell, I worked on developing protein
detectors produced by engineered bacteria for ELISAs, and those tests have been
around since the 80s.

My education included Molecular biology, genetics, and biochem. The first post in this
is a bit.. insane. Not exactly realistic in the sense that, random mutations are generally
silent. Often detrimental.. And they would be passed to offspring. You would need to be
a bit of an artist, and Very carefully and Intentionally edit specific sequences coding
proteins, operons, or other regulatory elements in order to affect net positive change.
This would need to be done via some sort of Viral vector. Not easy to transfect Every
cell in the human body and ensure that your desired sequence enters the genome at
exactly the right place (and not in the middle of say, a gene responsible for control of
the cell cycle = cancer).
As The_Engineer mentions, many of these genomes are also publicly available on the
NIH website for download. Full sequences of many organisms are available and there
are powerful bioinformatics tools also available for download and use.
If you wanted to, you could sit around playing god all you want on your computer for
fun. I do it sometimes too. There are distros of linux specifically for this.

What about bodies found from Plumb Island with holes drilled into the skull and
Kanoa
abnormal long body parts? Also back in the 20's they were trying to make a human/ape
hybrid, but found even though they may have the strength it would come out severely
retarded.

I havent heard of these bodies and a quick google search gave me dubious results. I
would say its more than likely some kind of myth.
More likely would be treating human babies or adults with extreme doses of growth
factors, steroids, whatever else to create bizarre monsters. Imagine a kid thats been
injected with growth factors since birth. by 10 s/he would be grotesque.
