Notes
About the Australian Petroleum Statistics
The Australian Petroleum Statistics (APS) is a monthly publication which provides statistics on petroleum production, refinery inputs and outputs, sales of petroleum products, stocks of
petroleum products, and prices. The primary sources for these statistics are voluntary submissions from participating companies, supplemented by administrative data sources and
estimates. Trade statistics are sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The petroleum sales data contained in Tables 3A to 3F are currently being reviewed. These tables currently do not represent full coverage of sales across all products, and work is
underway to improve this coverage. This includes through analysis of excise data from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and improved estimation techniques. Users are advised to
exercise caution around using the sales data.

Monthly natural gas production data in Table 1A are also under review to improve coverage. More complete quarterly and annual estimates of natural gas production are available in the
Resources and Energy Quarterly and the Australian Energy Statistics.

From 27 September 2016, the energy statistics function, including responsibility for the Australian Petroleum Statistics, transferred to the Department of the Environment and Energy.

Revisions in this issue

Additional country data for the prices tables (8A, 8B, 8C) are now available and have been incorporated into these tables. International petrol prices data in table 8A are now based on
prices for 95 RON for all countries where this data is available. New Zealand (96 RON) and Japan (91 RON) are the exceptions.
