INTRODUCTION

Senior High is an educational program that aims to give high

schoolers a head-start in college by giving them an advanced program
that they would normally undertake during their first terms in
College. This is an alternative option and provides colleges that would
have less amount of students coming in because of the new K-12
system. This Senior High Program would run for at least 2 years
before the K-12 students graduate.

Our aim for this survey is to find out the stance of an incoming
senior high student, to gauge whether or not they are ready for the
senior high program and the courses that they will undertake when
they enter into pre-college. We also aim to find out if they are issues
that they want to be addressed.

Our hypothesis: Will preparedness, family and dorming factor into

the readiness of an incoming Senior High Student.

Methodology

With the survey in mind, we wanted to be unhindered when it

came to our sampling. We used online survey, the most convenient
method of survey both for the researcher and the audience. Our
justification is that we are using a Non-probability purposive
sampling -- our target audience being students who are taking the
senior high program in the next school year and students who plan to
take the program removes any convenient sampling as we are
targeting a certain audience.

1
Our questions are also based on their confidence in their own
skill as well as how responsible they perceive themselves to be. Most
of these Senior High Programs are the major colleges such as DLSU,
ADMU, UST and would likely force students living in the provinces to
live in a dormitory or rent a condominium.

Our results (see Table 1 in Annex) garnered exactly 100 survey

responses, giving us a good amount of data to work with. Here are
our thoughts.

Population

Our population ranges from ages 13-17, our mode is ages 15 and our
standard deviation of 0.8188. From this information we can tell that
our age range is quite limited but this is to be expected because of the
age range that can enter into Senior High. Unfortunately with our
data, we could not achieve a normal distribution in our survey. In our
boxplot, ages 13 are suspected outliers yet the ages 14, 15, 16 and 17
are within the interquartile fences.

Preparedness for the Future

Based on the graphs, we see a good number of students who are

considering taking their college even after the senior high (figure
2&3). The graphs also show that they are taking their university as
their college choice. Even some taking Masters after their college
years.

Despite the goal of K-12 System and Senior High cutting short their
Educational Years for the average student, some are taking extra
years in education in hopes of a higher paying-job. It is in our culture

2
that we do our best to get the highest education possible, college being
the end goal and the starting point to a high-paying job. The K-12
made it longer for the average student to get into college yet shorter
for those who cannot afford a college tuition it is not within the
realm of possibility that the average student would continue their
education to a bachelors degree.

Confidence is Key

The average age of a student is 15.36, at this age the role of

responsibility has increased in their lives moreover having these
students board into dormitory houses would be an added
responsibility to their workload as students and boarding students
cleaning up after themselves, doing the laundry, cooking etc.) It is
good to see that most of these students feel confident about
themselves and even excited to enter their pre-college or Senior High
years. (figures 6-10)

They are also willing to take a seminar in managing ones time or

perhaps tips with college. It is a mature and responsible step forward.

Some of the students (figure 11) students are going to live in

dormitories. As weve mentioned earlier,

living in dormitories add more responsibilities of a student if he

doesnt have a relative living with them. (Figure 12)

3
Conclusion

Our data shows that Senior High will be a beneficial opportunity for
those who believe that they are ready for it. Based from our data, we
believe that the students are even taking extra steps in preparing for
college. Despite the young age, these students are showing
extraordinary levels of responsibility.
