I, Kendall Eaton, created this sex education PSA. The main argument is that sex
education should be taught at home as well as in schools. The PSA is based on an article found
on Gale that is titled, Should Sex Education Be Taught as Home, in School, or Both. This article
was written by Christine Watson. The sole purpose of this PSA is to influence adults that their
children need to be taught sex education at home and in school. Having a half-naked woman
that is holding a sign down low that says, SEX ED, is what immediately attracts the viewers.
Using bright colors, bolded words, and multiple pictures helps the ad draw in the viewers.
My PSA takes an action by stating that sex education should be taught at home and in
school. I use yellow, black, red, and white colors to help my ad stand out to the audience. Also,
my pictures relate to my topic very well on each side by getting the point across without even
having to read the words yet. This PSA makes the readers think about their decisions before
making any permanent ones. By using strong, powerful, and bolded words, as well as images,
helps me persuade the readers easier. These pictures are related to my PSA because one of
them is for school that uses an apple and books. Another one is a dad and his little girl and he is
teaching her stuff at home. Lastly, the overall picture is the half-naked girl holding the sex ed
sign.
The main point about the ad that seems most persuasive is my pictures, as well as my
question that says, Who will teach YOUR children? My picture supports my ad the most
clearly because each picture represents each point. I ad in logos appeals from my article that
provides credibility to the author, as well as to help persuade my audiences decision about the
topic. The PSA creates a sense of emotion by having powerful pictures and words. By using my
design choices, helps persuade the audience by making them feel emotional and think
intellectually about who and where they want their kids to learn about sex education.
The greatest challenge I faced while designing this PSA was knowing what types of
pictures and words to choose to get the emotional point across. This was difficult because I
needed to persuade my audience that teaching sex education in school and at home is the best
choice, so using bright colors and bolded words helped with my decision. One major revision
that I made to my PSA after my initial draft was how I worded my question that would get the
because they are powerful and cover both sides of the argument.
