points A and B and the locus of points C such that ACB is a right angle.

8. The north-south tracks of August Train Freight cross the east-west tracks of Wilson Cross-Continent
Railroad in Ersatz, New York. A train from each company is expected to arrive at the crossing between
10 and 11 am today. If one companys train is already in the crossing when the other companys train
arrives, the second train has to wait until the first train passes before it can continue. If ATFs trains
take 10 minutes to go through the crossing and WCCRs trains take 15 minutes to go through the
crossing, what is the probability that neither train will have to wait at the crossing?
9.
Let S y Ax 2 Bx C A, B, C 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 . If two distinct elements of S are
chosen at random, what is the probability that their graphs intersect? Yes there is some case work, but it
can be done. Note that A, B, and C are not necessarily distinct.

For number 13, the problem you create should be of similar difficulty to the ARML Tryouts or ARML contest if you have competed.
You must provide a complete (correct) solution to your problem. Please turn these in on a separate piece of paper and do not use the
space below. Oh, and write your name on the pages. And did I say include a correct solution?

13. Write a problem on the topic you believe is your worst.

14. Start thinking of someone to nominate for the Douglas Baker Memorial Chicago Award. In memory of Douglas Cameron Baker,
a former member of the Chicago ARML team, two annual awards have been established. The Douglas Baker Memorial National
Award and the Douglas Baker Memorial Chicago Award will be given to deserving ARML students who best exemplify the qualities
that Douglas himself brought to the contest: an enthusiasm for the competition, an enjoyment of the social interaction with other
students, and a love for mathematics. Criteria: A student should possess team spirit, enjoy all aspects of the ARML competition, and
help his or her teammates make the most of their ARML experience. Nominations for both awards can be submitted either by an
ARML coach or by a student. Those nominating someone will be asked to write a short essay, not to exceed 300 words, explaining
why this student is deserving of the award. One award has been specifically designated for a student on the Chicago team, while the
other one will be open to any ARML student.
