The purpose of this two part assignment was to apply effective practices using the social
skills assessment. The assignment also allowed us to learn about assessment and evaluation
methods. The use of these methods and tools led to an understanding of social skills excesses
and deficits relative to choosing and applying suitable individualized interventions and support
strategies. Part one of the assignment had us interpreting and analyzing the observation
information for both Bobby and non-disabled students relative to the identified social skill.
Then we were to interpret and analyze the direct observation data for Bobby, relative to the
described social situation and target social skill. Based on the analysis of both, we were to
identify key factors that will be the focus of attention and manipulation/modification
connected to improving the students social performance and building improved social
competence. Part two of the assignment built off of part one. Based on the data and our
analysis, we were to describe an intervention plan for facilitating improved social performance
for Bobby.
I addressed the assignment requirements by examining Bobbys current levels and IEP.
within the class. It was helpful to view as we are not in the classroom to make direct
observations. Through that I was able to create a direct observation social skill assessment form
for Bobby. Based off of that information, I was able to identify key factors that will be the
performance and building improved social competence. Part two of this assignment allowed us
to take our data and analysis to create and describe an intervention plan for facilitating the

improved social performance for Bobby. The elements that were included were: explicit
instructional methods social skill prompting and coaching methods, social understanding and
social problem-solving methods, peer-mediated strategies, and an evaluation plan for the
intervention.
I did not choose to revise this assignment. Per the instructor, there wasnt anything that
needed to be edited or revised. I did read through the documents to refresh the task at hand.
As I was reading, Bobby reminded me of a student in my class currently. The connection was
uncanny. This is a situation we are working on with this student right now. It helped to review
Bobbys case in order to further assist my student. Similar to Bobby, my student has been
shown different video models on peer communication. This two part assignment has helped me
further my thinking in my career. I have gained better insight by using the strategies from
Bobbys case on a student in my classroom. Through this personal experience I have gained
experience has provided different ways to assist a student with a social skill disability.
I will continue to use the discrepancy analysis and direct observation forms with current
students. Bobby was a very relatable character that it helped build a scenario that I see at work
today. I learned that social skills are just as important as academics. I am not more aware of the
social aspect of special education from this course and on the job experience. These revelations
