Taking into account the purposes and competences the course Materials Design for Virtual Environments is
focused on, its been chosen the Task-based strategy, due to the chance it gives students to learn by placing
them in real situations and some specific contexts where communication is essential for doing a specific task.
Task based learning encourage students to use their knowledge and communicative skills at their current level,
it also motivates students toward achieving a goal where language becomes a tool, making the use of the target
language a need which must be faced and gives them the chance to improve it. Another reason to choose the
TBL is because it increases the learner activity in the asked tasks, at individual and at collaborative phases too;
TBL is concerned with learner (which makes the learning process meaningful and demand students the need of
being autonomous) and not teacher activity, and it lies on the teacher to produce and design different tasks
which give the learners the opportunity to experiment spontaneously, individually and originally with the foreign
language in order to fulfill the asked tasks.
The TBL strategy will be developed through 4 specific moments:
1. Moment 1. Initial Task, students carry out an individual activity which gives them the opportunity to realize
on the course topics, different contents, actors, kinds of material and activities they will be involved
through the course.
2. Moment 2. Intermediate Collaborative Task 1, students are asked to do the first collaborative task which
is related to the theory that teachers should take into account when designing virtual material for teaching
English.

3. Moment 3. Intermediate Collaborative Task 2, this one demands to students to base on the contents
studied in the moment 2, to debate on the use of several web 2.0 tools to design virtual material and to
get closed to one of those to design an example.
4. Moment 4. Final Individual Task, students design a web 2.0 virtual material focusing on the contents
studied in the course, for teaching English to one of the levels and topics given in the established activity
guide.

Use of APA rules, version 3 in Spanish (Translated from version 6 in English)
The APA Rules is a style of organization and presentation of the most used information in the area of the social
sciences. These are published under a Manual that allows the scope of the ways in which a scientific article must be
presented. Here you can find the most relevant of the Spanish edition of the Manual of the APA Rules, such as

Plagiarism Policies: What is Plagiarism for UNAD? Plagiarism is defined by the dictionary of the Real Academia as
the action of "substantially copying other people's works, presenting them as their own." Therefore plagiarism is a
serious offense: it is the academic equivalent, to theft. A student who plagiarizes does not take his education
seriously, and does not respect the intellectual work of others.
There is no small plagiarism. If a student makes use of any portion of another person's work, and does not
document their source, they are committing an act of plagiarism. Now, it is clear that we all have the ideas of
others when it comes to presenting ours, and that our knowledge is based on the knowledge of others. But when
we rely on the work of others, academic honesty requires that we explicitly announce the fact that we are using an
external source, either by appointment or by an annotated paraphrase (these terms will be defined below). When
we make an appointment or a paraphrase, we clearly identify our source, not only to give recognition to their
author, but also to allow the reader to refer to the original if they wish.
There are academic circumstances in which, exceptionally, it is not acceptable to quote or paraphrase the work of
others. For example, if a teacher assigns their students a task in which students are clearly asked to respond using
their ideas and words exclusively, then the student should not appeal to external sources even if they are properly
referenced.
