Theme
The theme that our conference committee has chosen for the 2018 GLACURH Re-
gional Business Conference is centered around a celebration of GLACURHs 50 th
birthday. We, as a conference staff, would like to celebrate the half century of service
and commitment from the Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence
Halls and the delegates that represent it. With that being said, you are all cordially
invited to the 2018 Regional Birthday Conference! The birthday party theme will
be carried throughout the conference in unique and exciting ways that we are sure our
party guests will love!
This theme also happens to hold a very significant and special meaning to our own
staff as the 2018/2019 academic school year celebrates Eastern Michigan Universitys
very own birthday of 170 years. It would be an honor to have the 2018 GLACURH
RBC kick off the festivities for our own campus wide birthday celebration in the year
to follow.
Eastern Michigan University was originally founded nearly 170 years ago as the
Michigan State Normal Collegethe premiere institution for those looking to be
trained as teachers. To this day, EMU is known for having some of the strongest Ed-
ucation programs in the state, as this tradition is rooted in the very foundation of our
schools creation. It is displayed not only through our Special Education, Secondary
Education, Early Childhood Education, and Higher Education programs, but through
the very fiber of our campus culture.

Eastern Michigan University was founded in 1849 and was opened in 1853 as the Michigan
State Normal School. This was the first normal school (a school designed for training teachers)
in the state of Michigan, as well as the first created outside of the original 13 colonies. In 1899,
Michigan State Normal School became Michigan State Normal College, Michigans inaugural
teacher-prep program, and the first normal school in the United States to have a four-year teach-
ing program. By the time it became a university, Eastern Michigan Universitys first three col-
leges were the College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Graduate School.
Since then, Eastern has grown exponentially. EMU now offers over 200 majors, minors, and
concentrations in undergraduate, graduate, specialist, doctoral and certificate degrees. EMU has
grown from only offering three colleges to now offering five: College of Arts and Sciences, Col-
lege of Business, College of Education, College of Health and Human Services, and College of
Technologyall with concentrations available through the Honors College. EMU brings in rec-
ord breaking freshmen class sizes, and reaches over 20,000 students in enrollment year after
year.
Students, commuters, and residents, have access to a diverse network of faculty, staff, and peers
that foster a strong community of Eaglespast, present, and future. EMUs Housing and Resi-
dence Life serves nearly 4,000 university residents through 14 on-campus residence halls. With
over 100 programs offered each month in our residence halls, through RHA, HRL, and NRHH,
our residents have many opportunities to get involved and explore.

Venue
The venue for the Regional Birthday Conference will be set in a beautiful, historic part of Eastern
Michigan Universitys campus at the former Student Union, McKenny Hall. McKennys structural de-
sign will allow for Boardroom to be held in the ballroom on the second floor, conveniently located near
many of the remaining conference rooms. Also on the second floor, NRHH Boardroom will meet in the
Guild Room. Advisors will have space to work in both the Tower Room and the Alumni Conference
Room, which are located adjacent to the stairs upon landing on the second floor. 2018 GLACURH
RBC will have full and total access to all of McKenny Hall for the deration of the conference. There is
flexibility to move spaces within the hall if the need arises as well as open lounge areas for delegates
and advisors to enjoy.
All Boardrooms will come equipped with projector capabilities, outlets to charge technology, and guest
Wi-Fi options. GLACURH-U will have access to multiple classrooms on the lowest level of McKenny
Hall, with the same technology accommodations as the Boardrooms. Lunch will be served on the main
level of McKenny on Saturday, March 10th.
McKenny Hall has available parking directly behind the Hall in the McKenny Staff Lot. The Confer-
ence Committee asks that delegations not park in McKenny Staff Lot until 6:00pm on Friday, March
9th.
On Saturday night, March 10th, The GLACURH Regional Birthday Conference will celebrate East-
ern Michigan University and GLACURH with a Birthday Banquet. The Birthday Banquet will be held
in the Student Center Grand Ballroom on the main floor (second floor) of the Student Center. This lo-
cation is within a short walking distance of McKenny Hall. If delegations wish to drive to the Student

Policy and Security
Eastern Michigan University will adhere to these policies:
Alcohol Possession: Eastern Michigan University is a dry campus. Regardless of a dele-
gates age at the time of the Regional Business Conference 2018, no alcohol will be con-
sumed, concealed, or purchased during the Regional Business Conference 2018.
Illicit Drug Possession: Eastern Michigan University does not tolerate illicit drugs and
will not tolerate any illicit drug of any kind during the Regional Business Conference
2018. If any delegate is caught in possession of illicit drugs, the delegate will be removed
from the conference at the delegate schools cost. Illicit drugs may include, but are not lim-
ited to: marijuana, cocaine, heroin, non-prescription medicine, and other drugs that are
deemed illicit by Eastern Michigan University Housing Administration.
Property Damage at the Hotel or School: The cost of damages to a room will be split be-
tween all delegates in that room or the individual found responsible. Charges will be de-
termined by the Ann Arbor Regent and billed to the guilty party. Damages to meeting
rooms, dining halls or any other building on campus will be charged for as well. The
Housing Director and the Conference advisor will communicate and decide the appropri-
ate cost to the responsible school and/or the delegate(s).
Eastern Michigan University is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our
delegates:
Eastern Michigan University has its own police department known as the Department of
Public Safety (DPS.) This department responds to and/or investigates Emergency situations
on campus, enforces criminal and vehicle codes, investigates traffic collisions, community po-
licing, and managing security and safety for events that occur on campus. These services are
provided 24/7.
Eastern has 32 emergency blue phones around campus that, if pressed, connects directly
to DPS.
EMU also has an organization known as SEEUS, which stands for Student Eyes and Ears
for University Safety. SEEUS is a service that provides an escort to buildings, residence halls,
parked cars, and other campus destinations. They primarily provide a walking escort, with the
exception of, a mobile escort between Green Lots 1 and 2.
14
Sponsorship
Eastern Michigan University will be making every effort possible to keep the cost per dele-
gate to a minimum. To do so, we will be contacting various companies and businesses in the
Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area. This list of businesses will receive their own sponsorship letter
(see page 26) from our committee to which we will use to follow up with them. The confer-
ence committee is projecting $2,000 of sponsorship aid. Here is the list of businesses we will
be contacting for sponsorship:
15

Ypsilanti, Michigan
When established in 1823, the city of Ypsilanti was meant to be a trade post. This concept did
not last long. As the nation evolved the young city would become a major manufacturing hub,
and eventually would turn into the artistic haven it is known as today. Indeed, Ypsilanti is a
city of transformation. Through the one-hundred and ninety three year history, Ypsi (its affec-
tionate nickname) has seen much change within and outside the city limits. As the nation ad-
justed to the world around it, so did the city. However even with all the changes, there has
always been a stable culture of active students due to the long presence of Eastern Michigan
University. This combination of stability and remodeling has resulted in a community that
respects history and expects improvement. Ypsilanti truly is a premier college town in one of
the most vibrant regions of America.
Ypsilanti truly is a special community that students at EMU have fallen in love with over the
last one hundred and sixty-seven years. One can meet the friendliest people when walking the
streets of Downtown or Depot Town and see how close the community is when attending
farmers markets and art fairs. People that live here understand that Ypsi is a state of mind. It
means being respectful toward each other, it means being ambitious about success, and it
means being able to stick to your heart while also knowing when to adapt.
19
Technology
Waiver
For the Regional Business Conference, we will be using the regional waiver
that is online. The waiver can be reached at:
https://form.jotform.com/63527580387162
Website
We will be regularly updating and maintaining a website where we will be
giving updates and information about the conference and campus. Included
on the website will be maps of the campus and the Ypsilanti area, along
with directions to campus and various community links. The website can be
found at: www.glacurhrbc.com
Guidebook
The 2018 GLACURH Regional Birthday Conference will be using the
Guidebook application for the duration of the conference. Guidebook is
Apple and Android friendly and its convenient platform will provide dele-
gates with updates, information, directions, and a way to stay in contact
with other delegations throughout the conference.
20
Philanthropy
Eles Place identifies itself as a place of healing. They
work with children between the ages of 3-18 who are
grieving from a significant loss in their lives. Eles Place
sees that children who are grieving often hide it in order
to prevent family and friends from possibly thinking they
are a burden; they also know this can leave kids feeling
alone and unsupported. Eles Place provides support and
creates a safe place for hundreds of children while teach-
ing them how to cope with losing a parent, sibling, etc.
They offer a variety of services to do so, and therefore
have many needs.
In order to best meet the needs of Eles Place, we ask delegates to each bring an item
from their wish list. Their wish list will be updated and distributed to delegates in De-
cember Newsletter, prior to RBC. However items they always need include: paper
plates, napkins, plastic culinary utensils, white printer paper, coloring supplies, shoe-
boxes, and funky design duct tape.
Donations can be dropped off with RBC Staff upon check-in to the conference. If dele-
gates would like to donate to their local Eles Place, the non-profit can be found in
Flint, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, and Lansing.

To Whom It May Concern:
Hello, my name is Amanda Agosta and I am the Sponsorship and Philanthropy chair for the Eastern Michigan
University Bid Team for a conference known as GLACURH Regional Business Conference. GLACURH Regional
Business Conference is hosted every year for representatives from universities located in our region; these
include the following states/provinces: Michigan, Ontario, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana. The purpose of
GLACURH Regional Business Conference is to collaborate professionally among peers who live and work in
Housing and Residence Life across our region. Each schools representatives will decide upon new legislation,
vote on new positions, and work on conference committees. This year, Eastern Michigan University would
like to host GLACURH Regional Business Conference, as we think we truly can put on the best possible confer-
ence for our peers.
However, we recognize as a Bid Team that we do not possess all of the necessary resources to host this con-
ference. We need to be able to feed, house, and entertain our guests that we are hosting. Therefore, we are
looking to local businesses, like yours, to help us meet our needs! Anything your organization is able to do-
nate, such as monetary donations, will aide us in housing, feeding, and covering other excessive costs of
hosting the GLACURH Regional Business Conference. In gratitude of receiving your donation, our team is will-
ing to present your business/business logo on pamphlets during the event and other places during the con-
ference when possible. We want to truly thank you and promote your business for being kind enough to help
us.
If you are willing to donate to us, or have any questions, please contact me at (313) 530-8293 or via email at
aagosta@emich.edu. If you have decided to donate to us, we ask that you please include your logo and a
blurb you would like presented about your business in an email to me. If you are writing a check to us, please
make it out to Eastern Michigan University National Residence Hall Honorary (EMU NRHH).

Amanda Agosta
