Purpose/Objectives: The purpose of this responsive speaking assessment is to assess students

ability to respond to questions asked by the teacher about the American Revolution. The

speaking objective of this assessment is to assess whether students are be able to comprehend

questions and respond in complete and cohesive sentences. The learning objective of this

assessment is to assess that students can identify two issues of dissatisfaction that led to the

American Revolution, describe two key events and roles of key individuals, and explain one

reason why the colonies were able to defeat Great Britain in an interview with the teacher. This

interview will take place during Silent Sustained Reading time so that each student has a fair

chance to answer the questions without hearing others responses, or being in front of the class.

Back Machine to the time of the American Revolution! For this activity, you will choose to be

either a Patriot or Tory, and I will ask you five questions. You will take on the role of one of the

soldiers and answer my questions in character. Your job is to defend your side of the American

Revolution to me! I will call you up to my desk during SSR, so you can tell me your opinion of

the war. I will be listening to your responses to the questions. (15 points for speaking, 5 extra

points for correct answers).
