Introduction
We will tell about the intensions for making this project.

the intensions of this project were to compare the school life between 3 generations and the
children in India. The way they go to school and how school were different. We took a look at many
differences and similarities in the school life through the years and what the opinion of the 3
generations is on that. We talk a lot about the differences and similarities but we have a main
question: do students have to work harder to be successful at school now than at the time your
grandparents/parents were teenagers?

That is the question we will look at and answer.

Niels, Wout and Jinne.

Similarities and Differences
We will discuss what the biggest similarities and differences are between the 3 generations.

differences

Size of family
There are a number of similarities and Differences between the 3 generations. the biggest difference
between the 1e and the 3rd is the size of the families. Back then the families where much bigger like 8
and 9 people now mostly 4 .

Connection between school and parents

Another big difference is how parents and teachers connect. Now it is normal that the parents talk to
the teachers once a month or 2. But back then parents didnt talk to the teachers at all. All the
connection between the 2 was via the child.

Separated schools
When the 1st generation went to school the school were for boys or girls only and not mixed.

They had boys and girls in one school but separated classes or different schools.

The 2nd generation was the same as nowadays boys and girls in the same classes.

But at PE they were separated.

Similarities
Homework
The amount of homework and the time they spend on it stayed about the same (depends on person).

It is 1 to 2 hours per day (with some exeptions).

The amount of lessons a day

The amount of lessons stayed nearly the same but the 1st generation started at different times

The 2nd and 3rd generation is nearly the same when you look a the times they need to go to school

The amount of lessons a day is about 6

If they like(d) to go to school
School is not always fun but what a big similarity is between the 3 generations is that over all the like
school. They can hang out with friends learn fun (and not so fun) things.

Do students have to work harder to be successful at

school now than at the time your grandparents/parents
were teenagers?
Here we will answer the main question of our research.
We think that all the children of the 3 generations had or has to work hard but that nowadays there
are many more distractions like social media. The subjects are equally hard but are explained
different. The school work is for a big part online so many thing come at you. We think that the
children back then had less on their mind but needed to work as hard as kids now.

Schools were different and teachers were also. So it is hard to compare the 3 generations and say
which one needed to work the hardest.

The skills that were asked form the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation where different.

Because of that it isnt possible to say which generation needed to work the hardest In school

Conclusion
Here we will discuss what we have learned from this project.

The conclusion of our project is that the biggest change of the dutch education system was between
the 1e and the 2e generation. There changed the most at the way it went at schools.

What we liked the most of this project was interviewing our friends, parents and grandparents and
ask them how school was in their time. Deciding if the children back then or we now need to work
harder. We really liked to find out all this information.
