Alunite compositional variations are associated with shifts of absorption features centered at ~1428-

1434 and ~14791496 nm; where the Na content increases, absorption features shift towards longer
wavelengths, whereas an increase in K content shifts the features to shorter wavelengths (Thompson et
al., 1999; Swayze et al., 2014). In the case of the Chapi Chiara prospect, the reectance spectroscopy
analysis of more than 100 rock samples showed the predominance of intermediate and K-alunite; few
samples with Na-alunite occur and, in general, they are mixed with K-alunite.

Chiara, analisis spektroskopi refleksi lebih dari 100 sampel batuan menunjukkan dominasi K-alunit;

Features centered at 1427.6 and 1469.9-1483.6 nm allow the discrimination of K-alunite, as well as Na-
alunite, which has diagnostic features at 1441.6 and 1497.4 nm (Table 2). The discrimination between
Na-alunite, alunite mixtures (K-Na) and intermediate alunite was not an easy task due to the HyMap
spectral resolution (cf., Fig. 8B). For this reason, only two classes of alunite minerals were considered: (i)
K-alunite, and (ii) Na-alunite (plus mixtures, or intermediate alunite). The alteration map produced is
shown in Fig. 9A.
