CTAC 495L2 CAPSTONE INTERSHIP CONTRACT

Section 1: Description of agency, community, and project.


The Equality Research Center is a nonprofit organization ran through Eastern Michigan
University. Created in 2010, the organization aims to exploit the injustices and inequality around
sexual orientation and gender identity. In order to make revolutionary progress, communities
must come together using their voices and knowledge of injustice. The Equality Research Center
strives to make LGBT voices heard to ensure the queer community has a safe space to participate
in all aspects of social living. The department provides the proper education for professionals,
politicians, and other practitioners to advocate for equal rights, and to ensure they create an
inclusive environment for queer people. The organization primarily focuses on LGBT youth,
LGBT wellness, and LGBT civil rights.

After meeting with Dr. Dennis OGrady, the director of the Equality Research Center, the focus
of my work is to assist the department in social media and website upgrades, possible event
planning, and other miniature projects to increase the departments reputation. In more detail, the
responsibilities for this project will be to renovate the departments Facebook page and other
social media taking time to promote relevant events on campus, recruiting students and staff to
engage in the departments social media, along with collecting data to see who indulges in social
media. The department is unknown to much of the student body on campus, therefore having
more followers would allow the ERC to be a readily available resource to students. Organizing a
possible meeting with the Equality Research Center Board of Directors to discuss various topics
is another department goal, while Dr. OGrady stressed that researching grants to fund
employees would be beneficial to the operation of the department.

Update the ERC Facebook page while also collecting analytical data
Make appropriate fixes to the ERC website through EMUs database
Research possible grants that could provide employment funding for the ERC
Plan a meeting with the Board of Directors for the ERC

Section 4: Agency responsibilities.

Improve social justice for LGBT people in the public sphere


Provides credible information for educators, advocates and politicians
Holds workshops, lectures, seminars and conferences to discuss LGBT issues,
specifically to benefit the public sphere for LGBT youth, wellness and civil rights.
