As someone who is a scientist who studies puppers, doggos, yappers, and even
woofers, I am telling you, specifically, in doggology, no one calls puppers doggos. If
you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the
same thing.

If you're saying "doggo family" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of

I am a registered sex offender. Placed on there at 19 after I met a girl
online who said she was 18 and her profile said 18. She sent me some
pictures and then about a month later the state police were breaking
down my door to arrest and charge me with possession of sexually
explicit material. Girl had been 15. I had no clue. I was lied to. No one
believed my story though. A year of court appearances and trying to
reduce the charge from felony to anything else was a struggle. Lost my
family. Several friends. Almost lost my job, thank goodness for a really
amazing manager who had my back, and got kicked out of my first
apartment after it was all done.

I'd be willing to do an AMA either alone or if there are others on here

then as well.

Friend of a friend met a girl in a bar where you have to show ID
to enter (21+ in the states). She had a fake ID. He bought her a
drink and they ended up sleeping together. She was 16. He
ended up getting busted for buying a drink for underage and
stat rape. It was a hellish year. The state did not care that she
had fake ID in a place where you assume everyone is 21+

Before I write this I want it to be clear that I am woman.
(there, covered that). To me, in these instances, the
MAN is being raped. Hear me out: rape is not about
force, it is about lack of consent. If your consent to sex
was obtained via fraud, then you did not consent. Now
we would have to establish that absent the fraud, the
man would not have had sex, but I think it is reasonable
to assume that a great deal of men would not have sex
when that sex is a criminal act. So in cases where the
girl engages in fraud (fake ID that could pass for real)
and tells the man she is 21, and, based upon a
reasonable belief that she is of age, he has sex with her,
then she has raped him.

Edit: Okay so a lot of you are arguing that pretending to

be a millionaire to get a woman's consent would be the
same thing. I am going to disagree because what I am
saying here is that the fraud in the example I originally
posted induced the man to commit a crime. The lie got
the man to have sex with the woman, but it also turned
him into a criminal at the same time. The man
consented to legal sex with an adult, not illegal sex with
a child. We have all been lied by a sexual partner, but
the lie did not rise to level of us engaging in very serious
criminal activity when we had sex with them. That is the
chief distinction here.

over 18 then show me ID saying so, what am I
supposed to do? Call your mom and find out for

listed as real on EBay, you get your money back

Here's a tangentially-related example. Here in

Texas, the TABC is the governing body for
alcohol. They set all the rules and regulations
about when, where, and how alcohol can be sold
in the state. Waiters and bartenders must obtain
a certification from them in order to legally serve
alcoholic beverages. If a server or bartender is
ever caught serving an alcoholic beverage to a
minor, the first thing established is whether or
not they were aware of the fact that they were a
minor. Of course if they were aware, they are
guilty as charged, and case closed. But in cases
where they were not aware, the question of due
diligence arises. Did the employee make a
reasonable effort to determine the legality of the
sale? If the answer is yes, such as it is when
presented with a convincing fake ID, then the
employee is absolved of all guilt whatsoever. In
fact, simply asking the customer "are you 21 or
older?" is enough to get yourself off the hook,
 legally, because the customer then has to
deceive you in order to obtain an alcoholic
beverage.

I'm a registered sex offender. Registered last year after I met a girl online who
claimed to be 18. We talked, we hooked up. A couple months later she messaged
me to tell me that she was actually 15, and that she regretted what had happened
and had told her family. I figured that the police would be coming after me, so I did
what I thought was the smart thing- I went to the police station to explain the
situation. They were very nice, very understanding, and spent the majority of the
time saying that it's no big deal if you didn't know, it's not your fault, etc etc. After
we were done talking, of course I was cuffed and tossed in a holding cell. Of course
this was my mistake, but I had never -really- dealt with the law before, and am
generally a trusting person. I spent six months in the worst county jail in the
country while my family bled itself dry to pay my attorney. My plea bargain has me
on felony probation and lifetime sex offender registry. I lost my job when I was
arrested, and getting a new job after has been almost impossible. My life is pretty
much over at 24, with no real prospects for recovery. I live on the dime of family
members who won't be able to afford it forever, and when they can't do it anymore,
I'm probably just going to kill myself.

EDIT: I appreciate the kind words. I've had many, many beautiful people PM me. My
thoughts of suicide are atypical- simply logistical reasons. I feel my life is all but
over, and I've leeching off of people who still have lives to live.

Just remember that these registrations are completely politically motivated. The vast
majority of offenders are generally good people who've made a mistake, and have
no interest in hurting people. It's just such an easy opportunity for politicians to
score some votes by cracking down on us "monsters" after a highly publicized
tragedy. Just remember when you're voting, there are real people who are suffering.

It's about DA's wanting a rape conviction under their belt. Very hard to get rape
convictions, so they go for the low hanging fruit - a guy having consensual sex with
someone under age. It's open/shut. Which is all well and good when there is a major
power differential (teachers/bosses/etc/large difference in age), but pretty crappy
for the grey cases like this.

I had a girlfriend whose ex got caught up in this stuff. Basically was getting straight-
up catfished by a 14-year-old girl - claimed she was twice that. They never even
met, and he broke it off as soon as he found out, but he still got arrested & charged.
He ended up killing himself.

Sure, that's a severe response, but here was a divorced dad, little-league coach,
way into his community - totally shunned and started to spiral.

It's ridiculous that we have a hard time convicting legitimate rapists, so they focus
on people who can be accused of rape on technicalities. I realize that in this case
there's a lot more hard evidence than a "he said, she said" case, but it's so
discouraging that innocent men are punished because it is difficult to prosecute the
guilty.

These are not rape cases, and furthermore it discredits real cases.
Lawyer here. Statutory rape is one of a very few laws that falls under the "strict
liability" standard. The only other example of strict liability crimes (as far as I can
think with my hungover post-July 4th brain) is traffic violations. Strict liability crimes
do not require that you prove mens rea ("guilty mind" or intent to commit a crime),
the state only need prove the actus reus ("act in question" or something similar, like
I said I'm hungover). I think the reason they did this was because it would be
extraordinarily difficult to wade through all the he said-she said when one party is
below the age of consent. But it does end up meaning that many people who are
deliberately misled by minors are prosecuted unfairly.

The state has determined that statutory rape is such a danger to society that
plausible deniability will not be a defense to catch the pedophiles that would try and
cloak themselves in such a deniability to get away with their crimes. It has negative
side effects, like the situation above where the man may be totally innocent, but
overall the scheme is upheld to protect the children in most cases.

I'm going to post this here because stories like this will make guys afraid to go to
the police.

There is a scam going around on dating sites like Plenty of Fish where a cute girl will
start messaging. She will have an out of state phone number, but will claim she's
moving to your town soon and wants to make some friends. Then she sends nude
pictures.

Next thing you know, you're being contacted by her "father" who is demanding $800
for him not to go to the police. Why $800? Because he claims to have found his
daughter's phone and she's in trouble for sending the nude pics. Her punishment is
to have her brand new phone destroyed. And Dad wants YOU to pay for the
destroyed phone AND the disconnection fee.

Lots of guys are falling for this. Again, it's a scam. DO NOT PAY THEM! Do NOT give
these people any of your personal information. The agency I work for is aware this is
a scam and has not been charging victims with sex offense crimes (even if the
online profile clearly states the girl is under 18). However, I'm aware that this may
not be the case everywhere.

If you choose to file a police report for being scammed, save all the text messages
to show the police. If not, DELETE everything. Block the phone number. It's a scam.
Do NOT pay. A real parent would call the police - not claim to destroy a phone and
demand you pay for it. Please don't fall for this, guys!

Defense

People who fall for it are people who know that no matter what the
situation, being charged with child pornography never ends well for the
accused, even if they had no way of knowing they were speaking to an
"underage girl."

As a younger male teacher in a middle school I had a few girls say I sexually
assaulted them that I taught.

In the middle of the school day I was told the superintendent wanted to talk to me. I
had no idea what it was about and honestly thought I was getting a promotion or
something (I was a younger teacher, I was energetic and always tried to make the
classes fun).

This all happened during my free period so I left all of my stuff in my classroom, and
went to the super's office. I was left sitting waiting to speak with him for about an
hour and as the time passed I started to realize something was up. The secretary
wasn't as friendly as she normally was towards me and she kept giving me "looks". I
started to get a bit paranoid and thought about what I could have done wrong; I
thought to myself, "was it that day I left a few minutes early or maybe they saw a
weird Facebook post or something".

Super finally calls me into his office and tells me "3 students have made allegations
against you, we can not tell you what these allegations are or who the students are,
but you will be escorted from the school immediately and are on paid suspension.
You can send your wife to pick up your things."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I never had don't anything remotely
inappropriate, in fact I made sure I never even was alone with any students,
especially female; how could this be happening to me?

I begged the super to tell me more information, but he would not. Disgraced I was
escorted to my car and then had to call my wife and explain that some teenaged
female students are making allegations against me; as much as the shame I felt
earlier, this was the hardest part.

Luckily my wife is an incredible woman and a teacher herself so she knew how often
stuff like this happens. She believed 100% and was on my side the whole time.

That left me on paid suspension, with no idea what I did and no way of finding out.
Shortly after the calls started rolling in; I had to meet with union lawyers, the police
and deal with all my co-workers calling me up.

I decided I would only speak to my best friend co-worker. He informed me that after
the girls were interviewed by administration, they released them into the "general
population" during lunch time and within minutes a rumor had spread that I was
arrested and a pedophile. Within moments of those girls getting back in with the
other students, they had successfully demolished everything I had worked for at
that school and ruined my good name. I quickly became known as the pedophile
teacher amongst the students and the parents.

Weeks had passed without any real knowledge about what was happening. After
many sleepless nights, huge amounts of stress, anxiety attacks, being put on anti-
depressants and just trying to live with what was happening I found out what the
girls were alleging.

They said that I was [removed to ensure anonymity]. They said I did this all during
a class that I taught with another teacher (who happened to be female).

I couldn't believe such baseless allegations could cause my life to get ruined. I found
out later that the other teacher in the class with me had my back and acknowledged
that she never witnessed anything inappropriate by me.
In the end, all the girls recanted their allegations and admitted they were lying.
Apparently one of the girls (the ring leader) had a crush on me and was upset I paid
her little attention; she convinced the other girls to come up with this story for some
deranged reason that I will never understand. These were 12 year old girls who
masterminded and accomplished a plan to ruin the life I thought I wanted.

All charges were dropped against me, but my name was still ruined. I couldn't return
to the school because no matter what was found, the kids still called me a pedo, the
parents still were wary about me and even some of my co-workers treated
differently. But that's not the biggest reason I decided not to go back, I could switch
schools or districts and try to start from scratch; the real reason was that these girls
killed my desire to teach. The castrated my drive.

If that other teacher had not been in the room with me I could have easily been
prosecuted for some frivolous sex crime that I never committed and it scared me to
think that it could happen at any time. I figured it just wasn't worth the risk and
decided to leave teaching.

I was a fairly new teacher with less than 6 years under my belt, I was consistently
one of the most liked and always felt I was truly inspiring the student, but the risk
involved with being a male teacher just didn't seem worth it anymore. I'd rather
work an office job and not risk losing my freedom or family.

So, that's the story about how 3 teenage girls ruined my career path and life for a
short period of time. I'm doing alright now, working in a different industry and still
happily married and have children of my own.

PS - The 3 girls had nothing done to them for lying. That still aggravates me to this
day.

But a girl who takes her bikini top off at spring break or, God forbid, a
child sees it. Sex offender registry for life.
I have a story to share but it is not mine; it's my brother's. He was 22
and went to a friend's Halloween party. Parents were present. About
midnight, he decided he was too drunk to stay up and asked the mother if
she had a place he could pass out. She directed him to a couch in the
basement living room. He went down hard. He remembers having sex
with someone but no idea who. He woke up and was already inside her.
The next morning, he woke up on the couch alone and chalked it up to a
drunken dream. 3 months later, a 15 year old cousin of his friends comes
up pregnant, saying it's my brothers. He remembers her at the party but
she said she was 18. (He'd never met her before.) Her dad hotlined it
(child abuse hotline) and an investigation began. When the details came
out, I was enraged. Witnesses came forward to say she had talked about
going downstairs where he was and "getting some". She raped him.
Period end of story. He was passed out drunk and she got him hard
without waking him and had sex with him, no protection. When the
prosecutor got the info, my brother got lucky. She buried it, forever. She
knew he did nothing wrong besides be at the wrong place at the wrong
time. The only reason he didn't press rape charges on her was bc the
prosecutor told him not to. Because the age thing and how fucked up the
law is. When the baby was born, he had a paternity test done. It's his
son. 10 years later, he has full custody of him and I thank the Lord
everyday the prosecutor was not an idiot. His life could have been ruined
because this bitch raped him.

Couple of houses ago, everybody in the area got notification we were getting a sex
offender in the area - and he was going right next door. Long story short, when he
and his then-girlfriend were in high school, he turned 18 about 2 months before she
did. Her parents hated him, so they had him charged with statutory rape and,
because 'Murica, he was convicted. By the time he moved in next door to me, he
and that same woman had been married for something like 9 years and had a kid.
Thing is, the offender moving in notice didn't actually state any of this. It said he
committed a crime against a child. Had he not lived right next door to me and
volunteered it, along with a whole stack of court papers, prom photos, etc. I'd have
never known about it, just assumed there was a predator living in the 'hood.

Which, of course, this guy had it ROUGH from everybody else who never knew what
his "crime" was. His house was constantly being vandalized, people would drive
down the street and scream at him as he was mowing the lawn, etc.

We treat minors like they're stupid, incapable of knowing their actions. They know
how old they are. I'd estimate about 99.998% of them know the laws. It feels super
sexist to punish guys who have been lied to but not the idiot girls who lied to sleep
with or get attention from older men.
