Context (school, class/teaching): Ocean Grove is a K-5 Elementary school. lt has a population of 250 students. They
arelow,middleandhighincomefamilies. Aboutl0%ofourpopulationisFirstNations. Thisyearourschoolis
implementing a character traits program called Wildlife Wisdom. lt weaves in Character traits, First Nation's legends
and localanimals.

This class has 17 students, 4 in Kindergarten and 13 in grade 1. There is one identified special needs student and one
unidentified. The class is patient and busy. They need frequent body breaks, routines that don't change, and focus on
reading, writing and math. They are a lower group academically but are improving.

Summary:

Standard 1 - Educators value and care for all students and act in their best interests.

Jeff has demonstrated all the attributes that promote a healthy understanding between an educator and his students.
He has shown a mature respect in allthe aspects of Standard 1.

Standard 2 - Educators are role models who act ethically and honestly.

Jeff acts with complete integrity in respect to his chosen profession. He is aware of the expected conduct while on and
off duty and understands the education system in BC and how it relates to teachers' duties.

Standard 3 - Educators understand and apply knowledge of student growth and development.

Jeff has demonstrated competence in this area. He is knowledgeable about student development, individual differences
and learning styles and can make sound decisions around the curriculum and how it applies to individual learners. He is
quite effective in organizing age appropriate and engaging activities forthe learners at hand (especially in a multigrade
setting).

Standard 4 - Educators value the involvement and support of parents, guardians,
families, and communities in ,prh
Jeff has interacted with parents/guardians and families in a variety of settings.
He put on a mini class concert with his
students and invited parents to participate. He communicated and interacted
witl-r parents in a positive and meaningful
waY. \-

standard 5 - Educators implement effective practices in areas of classroom


management, planning, instruction,
assessment, evaluation, and reporting.

Jeff is very effective in this area. He is organized, plans his lessons with
his students in mind. He manages the learning
environment in ways that is nurturing, caring and purposeful. He varies his
teaching to maximize his ability to reach his
students' His reflections are well analyzed, insightful and detailed. They will serve
him well in his future growth.
Jeff is able to adjust his teaching according to circumstances as they
arise.
He has established a positive and solid rapport with his students.
They respect and respond to his teaching.
He is calm, positive, enthusiastic, firm but kind and respectful...

standard 6 - Educators have a broad knowledge base and understand


the subject areas they teach.

Jeff is effective in this standard. He is proficient in the subject areas


that he teaches. He is able to convey our values in
our democratic society. I did not get a chance to observe Jeff in enabling
students to understand the aboriginal context
as it did not come up during my observations.
Jeff makes reference to various resources to deepen the understanding
of the topic he teaches. This is well referenced
in his lesson plans.

Standard 7 - Educators engage in career-long learning.

Jeff has a solid belief system in this area. As I mentioned above his reflections
are detailed, in depth and connecting to
his continuing growth' He is able to focus on the areas that he feels
need strengthening, identify these and seek advice
on how to strengthen them. He is committed to growing in his profession
as thi opportunities arise especially through
professional development, research and the sharing of
effective practices with colleagues.

Standard 8 - Educators contribute to the profession.

Jeff supports and encourages fellow student teachers through collaboration


and resource sharing
He is open to feedback from his sponsor teacher. He brings personal
experience and expertise to the profession.

Concluding Comments:

Jeff has had a successful last portion of the practicum. He is more


than prepared to take on the profession.
