At the field level, the activity of the text is about academic comparison between manual
and electronic/computer calculation. The speaker (teacher) has a wide array of
vocabulary, he/she uses plain words (book, language, nature, computer, values),
technical jargon (mathematics, equations, numerical solution), names (Galileo,
scientists), and collocation (great book, tricky equations, useful ally, multiple points,
numerical solution). In relations of syntax, there is a repetition of the words computer,
equation and function, a quotation which is the first sentence of the text, and the text
is in the first person viewpoint for using the nouns we and us. The text also comprises
mostly with dependent clauses (that is followed by another dependent clause), simple
and complex sentences, exclamatory sentence (second sentence of the text), which are
in the active voice.
At the tenor level, the relationship shown on the text was teacher-student relationship.
The texts power is unequal due to that the teacher was obviously an academician so we
can say that he/she is an expert and the student/s whom are being fed with information.
In terms of affective value, we can say it is low because the focus of communication is
on academics. Personal is the contact, as the teacher discusses in front of his/her
student/s and also, there is an exclamatory sentence which means that the teacher is
speaking to someone.
