Procrastination, always.

Procrastination is a horrible habit to start and even harder to break. In my

writing process I begin to write and it starts off well. Then I get writers block, I

lose concentration, motivation, and my train of thought. I will tell you how I begin

writing, gathering, and losing my thoughts. I come up with my title, I start my

rough draft, then my mind goes blank and Ill stare at a blank screen for hours

thinking of what to write next.

When starting on an essay I begin to overthink everything, which leads to my

procrastination, and from procrastination leads to stress. Stressing about what to

write, the deadline, if its good enough. Im bit of a perfectionist and I will pick

apart every flaw of my writing. Backspace then becomes my best friend. Nothing is

ever good enough because Im too hard on myself. Ill second guess my grammar, my

punctuation, where I should move this sentence, anything you can think of Ill find a

way to pick out a flaw because it could always be better. Never have I felt

confident in any of my writing. Simply because I dont feel prepared like I should

be. I never know where to start or how to organize it.

When I began to organize when writing I make my paragraphs about the

main points in my paper. I start by creating my title page. Thinking of a title, Ill

spend hours trying to think of a creative title. I start with a well thought out hook

and what my paper will consist of. I then move on to the first body paragraph and

it starts out well then my ideas start to fade leading to less words eventually to me

staring into space about what I should write next.

I don't know when my bad habit of procrastination started in school but Im

assuming when I had to start writing essays. Writing is just not a strong point of

mine. Ive taken most classes to try to develope a better writing skill. I dont know

if its because Im so easily distracted which leads to my lack of focus and

concentration. Ive never been diagnosed with any disability or ADHD causing me to

have have a lack of focus and concentration.

All while being a scatterbrain and procrastinator it doesnt go well together.

I procrastinate everything I do thinking I have enough time when in reality Im on

the night before it's due scattering and trying to write the amount of words

required before the next morning even if it means exhaustion in the morning. When

it comes down to it its all about my time management. Theres never enough hours

in the day for everything I need to accomplish. I blow everything off because I

think Ill be fine until it comes down to the day its due when I have 300 words with

a requirement of at least 800 or more.

Finally, last minute writing everything comes to mind of what to write. I cant

even keep up with my train of thought and typing. Its like everything comes to

mind all at once. Usually Ill write my thoughts on a piece of paper and transfer

them to the computer. I personally learn better pencil to paper. Staring at a

screen all day long makes it hard to concentrate and gets me off topic real quick.

In conclusion, my writing process is poorly constructed. Whereas it starts

very straightened out, and my motivation ends gradually. I push myself to write the

perfect paper which is nearly impossible. I procrastinate, get distracted, lose

focus, and gain my concentration back last minute with the motivation to finish

with a passing grade. Although, with setbacks in writing my grades have never

reflected from them. I have many things I can correct with my writing skills but

thats my writing process and how eventually everything is thrown together. Id like

to gain better writing skills to feel better prepared and focused.
