Impact of drugs , alcohol and

smoking for our health!

About drugs!
Drugs are chemicals. Different drugs, due to their chemical structures, can affect
the body in different ways. In fact, some drugs can even change the person's body
and mind in ways that last long after the person has stopped taking drugs, maybe
even permanently.

Depending on the drug, it can enter the human body in a number of ways,
including injection, inhalation, and ingestion. The method of how it enters the
body impacts on how the drug affects the person. For example: injection takes
the drug directly into the bloodstream, providing more immediate effects; while
ingestion requires the drug to pass through the digestive system, delaying the
effects.

Most of the abused drugs are directly or indirectly targeting the brain's reward
system by flooding the circuit with dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter
present in regions of the brain that regulates movement, emotion, cognition,
motivation, and feelings of pleasure. When drugs enter the brain, they can
actually change how the brain performs its jobs. These changes are what leads to
compulsive drug use, the hallmark of addiction.
WHAT IS ALCOHOL?
Alcohol is a drug.

It is classed as a depressant, meaning that it slows down vital functions

resulting in slurred speech, unsteady movement, disturbed perceptions and an
inability to react quickly.

As for how it affects the mind, it is best understood as a drug that reduces a
persons ability to think rationally

Although classified as a depressant, the amount of alcohol consumed

determines the type of effect. Most people drink for the stimulant effect, such as
a beer or glass of wine taken to loosen up. But if a person consumes more than
the body can handle, they then experience alcohols depressant effect. They start
to feel stupid or lose coordination and control.

Alcohol overdose causes even more severe depressant effects (inability to

feel pain, toxicity where the body vomits the poison, and finally unconsciousness
or, worse, coma or death from severe toxic overdose). These reactions depend on
how much is consumed and how quickly.
About smoking!
Here's no way around it. Smoking is bad for your health. Smoking harms nearly
every organ of the body. Cigarette smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancer
deaths. It is also responsible for many other cancers and health problems. These
include lung disease, heart and blood vessel disease, stroke Women who smoke
have a greater chance of certain pregnancy problems or having a baby . Your
smoke is also bad for other people - they breathe in your smoke and can get
many of the same problems as smokers do , and quitting smoking can reduce your
risk of health problems. The earlier you quit, the greater the benefit.
