Performances (100pts):
Concerts, by their nature, cannot be duplicated. It is impossible to get all the
performers and audience members back together for a second go, so please check
and adjust your familys schedule so students can be present. Please check our
website and calendar, www.lehibands.com , for up-to-date performance
information. Concert attendance may be excused only if at least 3 weeks notice is
given beforehand and only in the cases of significant family events such as
weddings, etc. Request should be made via email, brianparker@alpinedistrict.org.
An absence may also be made up due to extenuating circumstances of illness or
bereavement.
The make-up grade would consist of two parts. First, the student must arrange a
time to play the concert music to Mr. Parker and one other person. Second, the
student must submit a 2-page research paper (12 pt. font, double-spaced), which
discusses the composers and music performed at the concert.

Participation (100pts): Students need to have their instrument, music, supplies and
a pencil at each rehearsal. Students should also have practiced their music
previously so they can learn everyone elses music, not just their own. If any
student is not prepared for our daily rehearsal, they will lose 5 points for the day.
Each student starts with 100 points total.

Practice/Sectionals (100pts): Members of the ensemble are required to practice in

order to solidify and master new skills and concepts taught in class. The more
consistent the practice, the more proficient the player. Practicing should become
routinemuch like brushing your teeth or eating meals. Find a time and place that
works for each day. 30 minutes/day for 5 days/week (150 minutes/week) is the
minimum requirement for practice length. Practicing should include focus on
fundamentals (scales, arpeggios, chorales, technical exercises), ensemble literature
(pieces we play in class), and solos/etudes. Practice times will be reported verbally
to Mr. Parker at the beginning of the week approximately 6-7 times each term.

Each term, sections (violin 1, violas, basses, etc.) should meet 4 separate times to
work on their concert pieces together. Flex time, before or after school are all
excellent times to meet.

Playing Tests (50pts): Each term, students will submit a video recording to Mr.
Parker of an assigned playing test (12 major scales, concert piece selection, etc.).
This will be submitted through Google Classroom.

Reports (50 pts): Each term, students will submit a concert report from a concert
they have attended. The concert should be a high school-level group or higher and
may be either band, orchestra or choir. The report should be 1 page, double-spaced,
with 12 pt. font. You should describe your experience at the concert with focus
being placed on the music and musicians.

Double classes Students who play the same instrument in multiple music classes
will only need to submit assignments once.

Late work will automatically lose 10%.

Please return this paper signed to Mr. Parker by Monday, August 28th, 2016.
