Objective - Objectives of PRA exercise at BMG Lakhanpur, Maghtayi, Bilasganj, Doraitha -
Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercise at villages was conducted with following
objectives:
 To identify the natural, human and social resources of village.
 To identify the village problems and prioritize them with the help of villagers.
 To prepare action plan for solving or re-solving problems.

Site of PRA and I.I. study- The present Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and issue
identification exercises was conducted in BMG Lakhanpur, Maghtayi, Bilasganj, Doraitha to
identify the social, human and social resources and social issues and problems of the village
and formulate a comprehensive action plan for the village with the involvement of the
villagers.

Need for PRA and I.I. - The participatory approach is an informal way of learning from rural
people about the problems and opportunities in a given rural area. It involves a methodology
which produces authentic information about the village problems, resources and solutions.

Methodology adopted- At the initial stage of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and Issue
Identification exercise, a meeting of the Villagers along with the Sarpanch, was conducted in
the village for rapport building. While conducting the meeting, they were made aware of the
exercise to be conducted for the development of a plan for the village and the objectives to be
achieved. The key informants were identified who helped to inform villagers to facilitate
participation. The dates and time for conducting Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) issue
identifications exercise were fixed in consultation with villagers and villagers were requested
to participate in the exercise. The dates and time was announces at the end of the meeting.

Process - The local people and the participants take a leadership role in collecting, analyzing,
interpreting and presenting information and PRA approach embodies a whole range of

techniques which when used reveal valuable information/data on the resources and skills
existing in the village, wealth structure and dynamics of caste and class. For management of
natural and social resources, participatory rural appraisal is conducted to establish rapport
with the village community as well as to identify and define problems for prioritization in the
village itself.

It is a way of learning from and with community members to investigate their need
assessment, analyze and evaluate constraints and opportunities and find out priorities in the
area of agriculture, small scale rural enterprises and any other social and economic
development programs addressed to village development. Based on the principle of listening
and learning, PRA is the technique of immediate analysis and survey of village resources for
participatory micro-planning and development. Participatory Rural Appraisal and issue
identifications is a way of enabling rural people to analyze their living conditions, social
problems which they are suffering from a long time, and share the outcomes and plan their
activities. PRA and Issue identification process went through these steps:-

1. Find a large open place to work.
2. Start by placing a rock or leaf to represent a central and important landmark.
3. Ask the participants to draw the boundaries of the BMG Lakhanpur, Maghtayi, Bilasganj,
Doraitha.
4. Ask the participants to draw other things on the map that are important like community
places, temples, playgrounds etc.
5. Once they stop, we asked whether there is anything else of importance that should be
added.
6. When the map is completed, facilitators started asking questions related to problems
they are suffering.
How to facilitate-
 Ask the participants to draw a map of the BMG Lakhanpur, Maghtayi, Bilasganj,
Doraitha, showing all households. For orientation it will be helpful to draw roads and
significant spots of the BMG Lakhanpur, Maghtayi, Bilasganj, Doraitha into the map..
 Ask the group to also show institutions, buildings and places that offer some kind of
social service or which are popular spots to meet and discuss. (Example: schools,
churches, health service, traditional healers, community administration, community
leaders, local shop, kindergarten, places where people frequently meet, water point
etc.)
 Encourage the group to discuss and show on the map which different ethnic groups are
living in their villages. Using a common symbol, mark those households in which the
minority ethnic groups live.
 Encourage the group to discuss and show on the map which different religious groups
are living in their villages. Using a common symbol, mark those households in which the
minority religious groups live.
 Ask them about what they are going through and what the major issues and problems
they are suffering. Step by step our facilitator wrote all the problems and then they
asked to villagers about the priority.
 Prioritization of all issues were little complicated because every person want his or her
problems on top but villagers participated very well and prioritized only those problems
which affecting whole community.
Benefits of PRA and Issue identification- Our team achieved our objective of this
exercise and some other benefits were also there-
 Involve rural people in their own need assessment.
 Help in problems identifications and prioritization.
 Formulate of action plan for a specific given rural area.
 Develop self- critical analysis and direct contact with local needs and communities.

Introduction
Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on 20th of November. But in
India 14th of November is celebrated as the Children’s Day. “We were all
children once. We all share the desire for the wellbeing of our children,
which has always been and will continue to be the most universally
cherished aspiration of humankind." Children’s day celebrations focus
on children and their enjoyment. The day is celebrated to pay tribute to
the legendary freedom fighter popularly known as CHA-CHA. This day is
commemorated with immense joy, enthusiasm and magnificence. It was
a fun- filled day for the children of BMG-Lakhanpur.
The celebrations began with a prayer conducted by our team and
children and good hearted people deserve to be remembered in special
words. The memorable part of the children’s day that children were
taking interest in through a special dance, games, and other activities.
The community place was buzzing with excitement and joy of colorfully
dressed children.
14th of November apart from fun and celebrations reminds us of
the message that Nehru has sent out for the children of the world. He
wanted the children to grow, prosper and be educated.

Objectives
Organize an event to celebrate children’s day with the children of
Bal Mitra Gram – Lakhanpur through the various culture activities, other
competitions and spread awareness regarding their rights. One of the
major goals of Children’s Day is to raise awareness towards the problems
that children face like disabilities, minority issues, being forced into child
labor and religion-based discriminations in the schools.

Overview/ history

In India, Children's Day is celebrated on 14 November, on the

birthday of the first Prime Minister of independent India, who was fondly
called Chacha Nehru (Uncle Nehru) or Chachaji (Uncle), and who
emphasized the importance of giving love and affection to children, to
give him tribute. After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964, it was
unanimously decided to celebrate his birthday as Bal Diwas or Children's
Day in India.
Jawaharlal Nehru, son of Motilal Nehru was a lawyer by profession
but he left his profession to join the freedom struggle of India. As India
attained independence Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister
of independent India. He is also known as the architect of Modern India.
It is a remarkable characteristic of Nehru that he loved immensely rose
flower and children. He often compared the children to roses saying that
children are like the flowers in a garden. Children were considered to be
the future of the nation and citizens of the country. After a child pinned
a Rose Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru started wearing on his Shirt/Jacket. The
national children’s center, Jawahar Bal Bhavan is also named after
Jawaharlal Nehru. It is celebrated all over India especially at the School
level.

Children’s participation
Children's Day is celebrated with great pomp and show
throughout the country. But amidst this celebration the real meaning of
the day should never be forgotten. Nehru wanted the children of the
nation to be literate and provide them with all the provisions that will
help them become responsible citizens of the future. Spreading a smile
on the lips of underprivileged children we arranged various events where
children participated in different activities and enjoyed a lot.
Art competition
We founded Art Competition to nurture and encourage children and
capabilities to engage in the arts. Children are a hugely important part of
us, so we’re passionate about celebrating their talent, enthusiasm, and
potential. We care about the benefits creativity can have for children’s
development and well-being and, ultimately, we want to help inspire the
next generation of artists and creatives. We actively engaged children to
engage, look, learn, draw, paint, create and make, and share their
creations with us.
“Children are often very creative by nature and there are some
incredibly talented young artists joined us. Anything that encourages
and develops this talent is something to be celebrated”

Children participating in cultural programmes
We held other activities that day and conducted cultural programs
(dance, poems and stories) and also distributed awards to children based
on their various achievements. Our motive is to encourage children to
come on stage and join other children for the activity so that they also
feel free to enjoy their day.

Race competition
Race competition was planned for boys and girls to test their physical
strenght and encourage them to build their abilities. We told them that
organized and well-structured youth sports and on-going physical
activities can provide many benefits for children and adolescents. We
told them benefits of running and other sports like sports teach
teamwork and problem-solving skills, its improve physical health and
boost self-esteem. We motivated our girls through tolding them about
how they can be healthy and fit with the help of sports and playing sports
