Sterimed Algo is certified medical device Class IIb according to Directive 93/42/EEC, CE. INDICATIONS Sterimed Algo is a primary dressing for use on superficial, low to moderate exuding wounds. Sterimed Algo is intended for the treatment of: = Bums first and second degree Skin graft (both donor and recipient sites) Cults, lacerations and postoperative wounds at risk of infection Venous leg ulcers Decubitus Sterimed Algo is suitable for both ambulatory and clinical use. CONTRAINDICATIONS Hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine or any of the ingredients. The dressing shall not be applied to dense non-subsided necrosis. Serle impregnated wound dressing with green microalgae extract BENEFITS Accelerates the wound healing: prevents wound infection reduces the swelling facilitates the exudate drainage Storimed Also pravites the green microalgae extract promotes the process of granulation and epithelialization and has deodorizing properties optimal moist and aseptic environment for the natural wound healing Ensures maximum patient comfort: = direct wound application = removal is easy and atraumatic, without causing pain and damaging the wound surface frequency of change ~ 2-3 times a week does not irritate the surrounding skin INSTRUCTION FOR USE Step 1. Clean the wound Clean the wound with saline solution and dry the surrounding area. Donot use Povidone iodine onto the wound! Step 2. Place the dressing Remove the first protective sheet and place the dressing directly on the wound surface. Remove the second protective sheet. The dressing can be cut to the wound size. Depending on the state of the wound, Sterimed Algo can be applied in one or more layers. Step 3. Fixthe dressing Cover the dressing with sterile gauze compress in case of high exudation. Fix with suitable bandage (knitted, conforming), non-woven plaster or postoperative dressing. Step 4. Change the dressing Change the dressing two or three times a week depending on the wound exudation. The treatment duration shall be appointed by health care specialist. Sterleimpregnated wound dressing with green microalgae extract, Use of Sterimed Algo on burns The study covered 29 patients affected by burns of varying etiology. Sterimed Algo dressings were used in a single layer on which a sterile gauze compress was placed. A bandage or non- woven plaster was used to fix the dressing. Dressings were changed every 48 hours. Microbiological studies were performed at the enrollment and course of treatment for each patient. During the treatment with Sterimed Algo applied to all observed groups of patients, simultaneously were observed patients treated with other dressings used in practice asa control Results: Patients with minor burns: Superficial wounds epithelialized spontaneously 1 to 3 days earlier as compared to the control ones. The wounds were hydrated and didn’t show any ingrowth of dressing with the granulation area, sowhen removing the dressing, there was no bleeding or pain. 1" Shortens the epithelialization period = No additional infection = Reduces abundant exudation Fresh burning of an arm treated with Sterimed Algo Patients with extensive burns: Sterimed Algo acted moisturizing to the thin necrosis and they separated spontaneously from the wound surfaces up to 3 days earlier than the control group. Wounds with fibrin coating after the second dressing change were presented with good and fresh granulations ready for further surgical intervention. Simultaneously with its wound drying and cleansing properties, Sterimed Algo stimulates the granulation processes Use of Sterimed Aigo on a patient with I/AB-IlI degree burn, 6 % area. Spontaneous epithellalization after remediation of the wound surfaces. Serle impregnated wound dresing with green microalgae extract Use of Sterimed Algo when preparing patients with wounds for plastic recovery and processing of donor sites In this group, 18 patients were observed. Microbiological studies were performed at the enrollment and course of treatment for each patient. During the treatment with Sterimed Algo applied to all observed groups of patients, simultaneously were observed palients treated with other dressings used in practice as a control Patients with wounds for plastic recover In this group wounds of a different nature were observed, the largest share falling on the ones grounded on insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. All wounds demonstrated evidence of chronic infection, abundant and purulent ‘exudation, and microbiological findings of S. Aureus, Proteus mirrabilis, E.coli. ‘After the application of two to four Sterimed Algo dressings, in two layers, lowering of local inflammatory responses, reduction of swelling, erythema and odor, reduction and clearness of exudation were found. The wounds were cleared, granulation appeared and wound surfaces were getting ready for plastic treatment. patient with @ scalp wound granulating for 6 months, ‘After the application of five Sterimed Algo dressings - 200 cm’. Edge necrosis in the middle ofthe stitch ‘spontaneous epithelialization after elimination of the ‘measuring about 6 cm. necrotic tissue. Inthe group of donor sites, the wound treatment started immediately after extracting the autotransplants by Sterimed Algo and ended between the 6” and the 8” day, depending on the thickness of the transplants. On the donor site the dry sterile gauze over Sterimed Algo was changed 24 hours after surgery. Allwounds were well influenced, without bacterial contamination. Use of Sterimed Algo on a patient with IIB-II! degree burn on the left forearm, 2 % total area. The net structure of Sterimed Algo provides: = drainage of the donor sites = larger contact area for attachment to the donor and faster epithelization Serle impregnated wound dressing with green microalgae extract The donor site after the first Dry donor site final form Sterimed Algo dressing In all patient groups treated with Sterimed Algo: No overt intolerance and side effects from dressing application were reported. No deterioration of local status was observed. Conclusion: ‘Sterimed Algo exerts an epithelializing effect on the wound - the superficial injuries epithelialize spontaneously, and in deep wounds granulation support is observed to the extent possible for the realization of plastic and restoration operations. The periods compared with similar dressings are shortened by 1 to 3 days. Available Chlorhexidine has antiseptic effect by reducing bacterial insemination and preventing from further contamination. Sterimed Algo has good drainage ability and provides dry wound and donor areas by reducing the complications of infection in them. Microbiological analysis of patients showed that Sterimed Algo is active both towards Gr (+ andto the Gr (-) microorganisms. Sterimed Algo dressing is well suited to the treatment of patients with infected wounds and minor bums in an outpatientsetting Sterile impregnated wound dressing with green microalgae extract Use of Sterimed Algo on freshly operated patients via Caesarean section During the study two consecutive groups have been observed. The first group involved 30 women who were treated with Sterimed Algo on the 1" and on the 3 postoperative day. Sterimed Algo was placed directly on the wound surface, in two layers, and fixed by a non-woven postoperative dressing. The second group consisted of 30 women who were treated in a conventional manner. The patients’ local status was monitored in dynamics and tracked for ‘complications and allergic reactions resulting from the application of Sterimed Algo. Results: In the first group no complications have been observed. Sutures were removed on the 3” and on the 5" postoperative day. The patients were discharged on the 5” postoperative day. Use of Sterimed Algo on a freshly operated woman via Caesarean section In the second group the suture removal of 15 women took place on the 5° postoperative day, while the sutures of the remaining 15 ‘ones were removed onthe 7" day. With some of the patients in this group ‘complications have been observed in relation to dehiscence of the operative cicatrix Sterimed Algo was further applied to them land changed every two days. Outpatient use of Sterimed Algo to a patient with dehiscence of the operative cicatrix Conclusion: 1 Incases of prophylactic use Sterimed Algo dressing shows very good effect on the epithelialization of the wound. The postoperative edema is significantly reduced, which allows earlier removal of the sutures. In patients with open wounds Sterimed Algo allows ambulatory monitoring and does not require application of secondary stitching. = Sterimed Algo dressing does not adhere to the wound and is removed without pain. = The positive results and the good tolerability by the patients warrant a recommendation for routine work with the dressing and especially for prophylactic use.
