INTRODUCTION
This document provides an overview of the licensing and pricing for different editions of StarWind Native SAN for
Hyper-V.
StarWind Native SAN for Hyper-V is a storage hypervisor that builds a reliable, fast, and easy-to-manage shared storage
in the existing infrastructure, which makes this solution affordable for the small and medium-sized business.
StarWind Native SAN for Hyper-V was designed specifically for Hyper-V environments and, therefore, it provides full
support of the entire hypervisor functionality. The software runs in a primary Hyper-V partition and uses hypervisor local
disks (DAS) to create shared storage.
The product is ideal for SMB customers who want to enjoy all the advantages offered by Live Migration, storage
clustering, and high availability technologies.
StarWind HA editions provide enterprise-level features, including:

HOW STARWIND NATIVE SAN FOR HYPER-V EDITIONS ARE LICENSED
• 1TB Edition: The 1TB Edition license includes an unlimited number of iSCSI client connections and 1TB
storage capacity. It is intended for small storage environments that require active-active high availability
but do not have large amounts of stored data. The license permits installation on two or three physical
nodes depending on customer needs and allows for the creation of a highly available SAN/NAS cluster.

• HA Unlimited Edition: The Unlimited Edition license includes an unlimited number of iSCSI client
connections and unlimited storage capacity. It is intended for extra-large storage environments that
require active-active high availability. The license permits installation on two or three physical nodes
depending on customer needs and allows for the creation of a highly available SAN/NAS cluster. The
license includes 1 year of maintenance.

STARWIND BACKUP MODULE
StarWind Hyper-V Backup Plug-in
The licensing policy for StarWind Hyper-V Backup Plug-in is based on the number of Hyper-V hosts to be
backed up. The unique license covers an exact number of Hyper-V hosts required by a customer at the
moment of purchase. The license is not dependent on the number of VMs or CPUs on a particular host.
The list price for StarWind Hyper-V Backup Plug-in is €349.00 per a Hyper-V host.
Example: If there are two Hyper-V hosts to be backed up, restored, and/or managed, a customer needs
only 1 custom license of StarWind Hyper-V Backup Plug-in that covers two Hyper-V hosts. If there are
three Hyper-V hosts, a customer still needs only 1 custom license that covers three Hyper-V hosts; and
so on.

LICENSE KEY ACTIVATION
You can generate a license key for the Trial version of StarWind Native SAN for Hyper-V on the official website
of StarWind Software: http://www.starwindsoftware.com/registration-native-san-for-hyper-v.
The licensing mechanism does not require activation over the Internet and allows for the activation of the
software using license keys. To generate a license key for the commercial version of StarWind Native SAN for
Hyper-V, please contact our sales team: sales@starwindsoftware.com.

UPGRADE PROGRAM
StarWind provides a unique upgrade program that is easy and clear for our clients. It is applied to all editions
of StarWind Native SAN for Hyper-V. When users need to add some options, such as high availability, or
upgrade to a higher storage capacity, they pay only the difference between the purchase price of the initial
edition and the list price of the edition for upgrade.
Example: To upgrade from 2TB Edition for 2 nodes (purchase price – €2, 636 ) to 4TB Edition for 2 nodes
(list price – €3, 916), the user has to pay only the price difference between these two editions:
€3, 916 – €2, 636 = €1, 280 .

RENEWALS
The license renewal fee is applied after the expiration of annual software maintenance. It is charged if the
annual software maintenance is not renewed within 90-days from the maintenance expiration date. The fee is
applied at 20% of the license list price for each year of the current license maintenance.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Free Trial Technical Support
All customers that evaluate the 30-day Free Trial product receive 30 days of free technical support through their
account manager as defined in the End User License Agreement (EULA). Free support is provided via email and
the online forum on a best effort basis. The thirty-day period starts on the installation date of the Trial license.
Annual Software Maintenance (ASM)
Annual Support and Maintenance (ASM) provides major and minor product version releases/updates and
technical support. Major version releases are indicated by an increase in the first digit of the version number,
i.e. 5.0 to 6.0. ASM is available on a per-year basis. It is possible to purchase the ASM subscription and receive
technical support respectively for 1, 2, or 3 years.

Post-Sale Support
Post-Sale Support can be Standard or Premium. Each purchased copy of StarWind software includes one year of
Standard Technical Support. The 24/7 Premium Technical Support plan can be purchased at an additional fee.
The response time is defined in accordance with the support plan purchased and the issue severity level.

Severity Levels
• Severity 1 issue is any issue that is caused by StarWind software and prevents a production system
from functioning while no immediate workaround is available.
• Severity 2 issue is any issue that is caused by StarWind software and prevents a production system
from functioning and a workaround exists.
• Severity 3 issue is any non-critical issue that is caused by StarWind software; a production system is
able to function. Any other issues such as general questions are classified as Severity 3.

Note: StarWind Software Inc. does not guarantee 100% performance for the configurations slower than
those mentioned in the minimal technical requirements guide and/or not matching the best practice
configurations.
