Lemma 1.

Let be G a finite group with abelian automorphism group Aut(G),

if H is a Hall subgroup of G then Aut(H) and Aut(G/H) are both abelian.

Proof. If H is a Hall subgroup of G then G ∼

= (H × G/H), and

Aut(G) ∼
= Aut(H × G/H) ∼
= Aut(H) × Aut(G/H)

Then, Aut(H) and Aut(G/H) are abelian because the abelian group
Aut(H) × Aut(G/H) contains two subgroups, respectively, isomorphic to
Aut(H) and Aut(G/H).

Theorem 1. Let be G an abelian finite group with abelian automorphism

group Aut(G) , the G is cyclic.

Proof. We write G as
m
Y
G= Zpki
i
i=1

where p1 , p2 , . . . pm are prime numbers and k1 , k2 , . . . km are positive integer

numbers.
Suppose that G is not cyclic, then we can assume that for some 1 < n ≤ m,
p = p1 = p2 = . . . = pn . So G has a subgroup H of order pk1 +k2 +...+kn
Q n
isomorphic to Zpki . Then H is a Hall group of G and because of Lemma
i=1
n
Q
1, Aut(H) is abelian, but we now that Aut( Zpki ) is not abelian. So it is
i=1
absurd to suppose that G is not cyclic.
