(2) SELECTION OF TYPE OF STRUCTURE: -

Taking into account the width of existing structure i.e., under tunnel and the future load
classification etc, it is proposed to adopt the standard Double Lane Road Bridge for a double
lane road. The attached drawings may be referred for full details; The dimensions are assumed
as given in Standard Drawings and Tables of Department of Road Transport and Highways,
Ministry of Surface transport and Highways, Govt. of India, New Delhi :- (Publication year-
2000)

(4)DETAILED CHACKING OF THE SECTION SELECTED: -

It is proposed to adopt a two vents of 10.00 m clear span double lane Road Bridge
without foot path and loading for two lanes of IRC Class A and one lane of 70R loading as per
I.R.C. Standards. Standard drawing. BD/3-74 (Details of Slab) and BD/4-74 (Schedule of
Reinforcement).

From the enclosed drawings it can be seen that the bottom level of the substructure ie.,
abutment/pier of proposed double lane bridge will be at +37.000 (m) at this depth Sandy Soils
will be available. Even considering the trial pit dug the Sandy Soil can have a S.B.C. of
30.0t/m², where as the design maximum base pressure will be 29.52 t/m². Hence the structure
will be safe.

So the dimensions of the members are as follows.

The clear span of one vent; a = 10.00m.
As per I.R.C. standard, the District Roads Carriage-way = 10.90m.

(5) MISCELLANEOUS: -

(i) 100mm thick levelling course shall be provided under the piers and abutment.

(ii) Weep Holes of 100mm dia with reverse filters on rear side shall be provided in
Abutment and returns at 1500 mm c/c staggered both ways.

(iii) 300 mm thick approach slab in RCC M30 Grade shall be provided for a length of
3.50 Mts on either side with 12 dia @ 150 mm c/c both ways, at top and bottom
over 225 mm tick gravel Base as shown in the drawing.

(iv) Railings shall be of any approved type. The reinforcement from railings should be
incorporated into kerb before castings the slab.
