Epiphany of the Lord

It was only after they entered the house that the Magi found Jesus. Today’s gospel
challenges us to bring our gifts into our home and family. There we will find Jesus.
Our spiritual search for God starts at home.
352 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. As
we begin a New Year, please consider making time to add a Holy Hour to your

Barberton Area Community Ministries item for the Month of January is Potato products,
rice, noodles or boxed dinners. All donations can be placed in the bench in front of the
giving tree in the vestibule of the church. Donations are picked up on Monday mornings.

The priests of St. Augustine are on the emergency call list to Barberton Hospital, they
are only called in cases of emergency. If you are in or have entered the hospital and
would like to be visited by one of our priest’s, please call the rectory at 330-745-0011.
If you have a surgery planned and would like to be anointed, please call prior to
hospitalization as to make sure you receive the sacrament. If there is someone you
know who has been returned to health and can be removed from the sick list, please
contact the rectory.

There are still copies available of the St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church “History, Art &
Architecture” by Deacon Robin Adair. DVD’s are $4.00 each and can be purchased at the
rectory during regular business hour. Know anyone who attended St. Augustine and has moved
away, was married here or raised a family in our parish? These make awesome gifts.

Do you have a child ready for kindergarten, or do you have a school-aged child looking for a
change? St. Augustine School is accepting enrollment for the 2018-19 school year. St.
Augustine School offers a small-school environment with a rigorous academic curriculum
rooted in Catholic teaching that will prepare your child for success in high school and beyond.
Come to our open house on February 22 at 6pm to learn more about what St. Augustine has to offer.

The Divorced, Separated and Widowed Catholics of Akron will be sponsoring a talk given by
Jen Ricard, Pastoral Associate from IHM. Jen returns to share Part 2 of the Theology of the
Body. This event will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Building, 1945 Portage
Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, on Monday, January 8th at 7:30. This event is open at no cost to single
people of all faiths. Refreshments will be at 7:15. Our speaker will start at 7:30. For information call Sue at

Our Lady of Victory Parish is offering a six-week initiative entitled Catholics Returning Home beginning
Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 7-8:30 pm in the Parish Center Library. Catholics Returning Home is
an opportunity for anyone wishing to bring healing to their relationships whether with God, His Church,
others or even within their own hearts. The address is 73 North Avenue in Tallmadge. For additional

St. Augustine Men’s Fellowship will meet in the school cafeteria from 7-8:25 am on Saturday, January
13. We will continue our study of the book “Real Men Pray the Rosary” and we will pray a rosary for
Marriage, the Family and World Peace. All men of the parish and friends are invited to join us. For

For those preparing to have a child baptized in the near future, One requirement is that the
parents attend a Pre-Baptism Class. The next class will be held on January 23, 7:00pm at St.
Augustine. Registration is not necessary, Classes are held in the Rectory Meeting Room.

In order to aid our parishioners with year-end tax planning, we will be mailing an
annual summary to those who contributed $250.00 or more. A donation will count
for 2017 if it is postmarked by December 31, 2017. If you have not received a
summary by January 29, please contact the rectory at 330-745-0011.

Theology on Tap Akron will again be at Ray's Place of Fairlawn on Wednesday, January 10
at 7:00 pm! Theology on Tap welcomes all young adults to come listen to Rev. Rob Ramser,
Parochial Vicar of St. Ambrose, speak on "By whose name are we saved - Jesus is that you?."
Admission is $5 and includes appetizers. The bar will be open for those who would like to
purchase beverages. Come experience faith, fellowship, and food with other young adults in their 20's and
30's at Theology on Tap Akron! Ray's Place of Fairlawn is located at 25 Ghent Road, Fairlawn, OH 44333.

Food, Fellowship and Faith for Adults – Join us Monday, January 15 at D’Agnese’s at
556 White Pond Drive, Akron. Our speaker will be Fr. Barry Gearing,
Pastor at St. Adalbert Parish. Our discussion will be “Finding
redemption in a Pornographic Culture: An overview of Theology of the
Body by St. John Paul II.” We will be begin at 7:00 pm with Appetizers, 7:30 pm

Retrouvaille Weekend – January 19-21, 2018 – A Lifeline for Troubled Marriages – Has

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is collecting New or gently used coats for those less fortunate
this winter. Please place the coats in the box provided in the vestibule of the church. Thank
you in advance for your generosity.

Mark your calendar – Experiencing God: Splendor in the ordinary – Transformation to

extraordinary. Join parishioners for a Lenten Parish Mission, March 6 and 7 at 7:00-8:30pm,
directed by Deacon Robin Adair with sacred music, scripture, prayer, reflection, and Benediction of
the Blessed Sacrament. All are encouraged to attend. Mission will be held in the church.

“The Kenmore Free Store” is a collaborative ministry of Park United Methodist Church and Immaculate
Conception of Mary Parish, Kenmore. The phenomenal success of this ministry has caused a backlog of
unpacking, evaluation, sorting and display or storage of donated items. We really need help! Groups are
especially welcome. The store is in the former ICM Parish School, 2128 16th Street, S.W., Akron. Call
Melissa Keegan to schedule volunteers 330-753-8429.

We are looking for Prayer Warriors……Someone to pray for our School and PSR students. All
you need to do is choose a set of cards with a child’s name on it, place your name (last names
only) on the cards. The Prayer Warrior keeps the St. Michael Card as a reminder to keep that
child in your prayers, the Guardian Angel card will be returned to the school…it is as simple as

joining this ministry of prayer for our students, we would like each student to have their own warrior.

Tickets are on sale for the Annual St. Augustine Athletic Board Reverse Raffle being held in the SAC on
Saturday, February 10. Only 150 tickets will be sold, fun begins at 6:00pm. Don’t miss out on the
opportunity to support the athletes of St. Augustine while enjoying wonderful food and fellowship.
