'78 WAS GREAT

The Wizards announced that they will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the team's lone NBA Championship this
season. March 23-25 will serve as the culmination of the celebration, with members of the 1978 championship
team returning for festivities throughout the weekend (including the retirement of Phil Chenier’s #45 jersey
on March 23). Highlights, achievements and memories of the 1978 team will be recognized on the Wizards
social media platforms throughout the season with the hashtag #Bullets40.

THIS WEEK IN 1977-78

Washington followed their three-game losing streak with an impressive three-game win streak. On Christmas
Day, the Bullets defeated the Atlanta Hawks 100-93. Bob Dandridge led the team with 24 points and Phil
Chenier chipped in another 23. The second night of this back-to-back against the Atlanta Hawks saw the Bullets
winning again, 113-106, led by the scoring of Mitch Kupchak with 22 points. The Bullets continued their winning
ways with a resounding 106-87 defeat of the Buffalo Braves. Elvin Hayes had a team high 18 points while five Bullets’
players scored in double figures. The Bullets win streak would come to a halt with a loss to the 22-11 Philadelphia 76ers
by a score of 126-119. This loss would leave the Bullet’s with a 20-13 record.
