The hopper bin is used to store and discharge bulk solids of the final product. The hopper bin
is steel fabricated and oriented vertically. The hopper outlet is where the solid is being discharged. The
legs and steel supports serves as the stand for the hopper bin.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
From bucket conveyor, the solid is transported into the hopper bin and stored. The solid is then
discharged from its outlet into bulk containers or other transportation medium through gravity.
BASIS OF SELECTION
Hopper bins are capable of handling large amount of solids, particularly grainy and powder in
nature. Hopper bins are capable of maintaining storage conditions for various types of solids as well
as discharging it from the bin having the stored material controlled in terms of temperature and
moisture content.

Part Function
Roof Used to cover the upper part of the hopper bin
Hopper Inlet Used for loading the solids into the hopper bin
Outer Shell Serve as the casing for storing the solids
Hopper Outlet It is where the solid is being discharged after
storage
Leg Support Used to stand the hopper in a vertical
arrangement
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
1. The hopper bin outlet is conical in shape
2. The flow pattern is mass flow (m = 1)
