dissemination to be used by kariah
masjid in the state of Selangor.

I NTRODUCTION

Short Message Service (SMS) is a text

messageservice built around the mobile
phone communication technology that
enables messages of 160 characters to
be sent to mobile phones. SMS’s are
stored and forwarded so the message
will be sent later if the phone is not
immediately available.

Bulk SMS messaging provides almost

instantaneous communication media to a
person or group of people on the go.

Research has shown that SMS has the

capacity to access large number of
people with mobile connectivity
efficiently with high probability of
them reading the messages.
The table above shows the effectiveness
of SMS compared to other form of
communication channel in reaching a
large audience.
 .P RODUCT D ESCRIPTION

We are proposing to implement our

product Relationship Management texting
to be implemented by Jabatan Agama
Islam for use by Masjid’s within it’s
jurisdiction. It is a simple but
powerful tool to reach the kariah to
disseminate information on the masjid’s
activity. We propose the project to be
funded by the Government so to deliver
free services to the kariah.

How does it work:

All Masjids will be given a unique id

number. Each masjid will register
authorized phone numbers to send
messages to the kariah.

E.g Masjid Muadz Ibn Jabal Setiawangsa

ID: MMJS
Authorized Number:
Tok Imam 0192560000
Tok Siak 0162569000

People in the kariah who wants to

Subscribe Type REG MMJS and send to
99999. Each person in the kariah can
only register for free to receive info
from 1 masjid. Additional masjid’s will
be charged a minimal fee.

Masjid Officers to send information to

the people within their congregation
will need to send message to just one
number and the message will be sent to
all those who subscribed to the kariah.

e.g Tok Imam for MMJS will send the

following message to all those in the
congregation using the registered phone
number for the masjid.

The cost of the messages will either be

borne by the government or sponsorship.

C ONCLUSION

Bulk SMS allows savings via bulk

discount for which can be shared by all
Masjids. The system provided allows
closer rapport between masjid and its
congregation. SMS is the best way to
reach people at low cost with high
level of response and effectiveness.
