What’s Happening Around Town
Can you believe we just completed our first full
week of school? It has been a terrific week filled
with many new exciting activities! I trust your
child has enjoyed school so far and is looking
forward to what we will be doing in the coming
days!
We began the new year by concentrating on the
letters i and u and the short vowel sounds they
make in words such as Indian and umbrella. The
students learned how to write these letters and
have done a great job practicing them as well as
practicing griping their pencils and writing their
names. Math lessons began with a review of col-
ors, color words, and grouping items or making pat-
terns using colors. Your child has also been
learning how to identify the color of an object
using sign language! Our science and history units
have meshed together quite well, so we began our
study of families and serving our community. This
material tied in well with our unit in Bible on cre-
ation. For two weeks, we will spend most of our
Bible sessions learning about God’s creation of our
beautiful world! Students learned and recited the
letter e Bible verse this week and will turn their
attention to the letter I verse next week! We
work on our verse each day using motions and sign
language, and the students recite the verse on
Friday for a grade. They are a fantastic group of
learners!
The upcoming week will be exciting as we dive
into lots of new material! We will focus on
numbers 1 - 5 in math, community helpers who
serve by teaching us about the Lord (pastors and
teachers), and reading and writing words with the
short vowel sounds e (elephant) and a (apple)!

Answers to Questions on the Ranch
A: At back to school night, I shared my
testimony and a little bit about my expecta-
tions and discipline plan. I also gave parents an
opportunity to sign-up for fall conferences and
a week to bring snacks. If you were unable to
attend, there are two papers in your child’s
HORSE folder for you to read. You can also
sign up for a fall conference time slot and a
snack week outside of our classroom. If you
have further questions, please let me know!
A: HORSE stands for Happily Organized
Students Ready Everyday! Your child will be
responsible for taking this folder home every
night and bringing it back every morning.
Inside the folder you will find one pocket
labeled “Ta-da Papers.” This pocket will be a
place where your child can place his or her
work, and you will also find important papers
and notes like the weekly newsletter. The back
pocket is labeled “Homework.” When we begin
reading groups in November, your child will
begin to bring home little books which he or
she will want to practice reading to you. In the
middle of the folder, you will find the
saddlebag. The saddlebag is a place where you
can put important papers like permission slips,
etc. There are also sheets of paper for you
and me to communicate with one another. I
want to teach the students the importance of
responsibility, and I hope that they will rise to
the challenge of caring for their HORSES!
 Spotlighting Students and Volunteers A Bible Course Map for the Upcoming Week

I want to thank each of you for taking
time to encourage me in so many special,
little ways! I appreciate your kindness and
generosity, and I am ever so thankful for
your prayers!
I was thrilled to see all of you who were
able to attend Back-to-School Night! It
was a blessing to be able to chat for you,
even for just a few minutes! Thank you to
all who signed up to bring snacks, help as a
room mother or father, volunteer to read
during library time, and provide items for
our class from the Giving Tree outside of
the classroom!
I know some families were unable to at-
tend the Back-to-School Night, but may I
just take a minute to say I am thankful for
you and your child! We have had a great
start to a new year, and your help has
encouraged and blessed my heart!
Tuesday - (Gen. 1:14-19) God created the sun,
moon, and stars on the fourth day of creation!
Time is in His hands, and as we celebrate the
changing of seasons and the passing of weeks,
we are reminded our Creator God came up
with the idea!
Wednesday - (Gen. 1:20-23) God created birds
and fish on the fifth day of creation!
Thursday - (Gen. 1:24-31) God created animals
and man on the sixth day of creation! God
created us to serve Him! He’s got work for us
to do!
Friday - (Gen. 2:1:3) God rested on the seventh
day of creation! He saw all He had created
was good, and He ceased from His work of
creation!
