METHOD TOTAL ALKALINITY

Take 20 gram FG powder dissolve and make up in 250 ml volumetric flask ( note ph = 11.4).

Take 50 ml solution from pippete in 250 ml beaker .

Stir it and dip the electrod and titrate it against 0.5 N HCl till 2.5 PH.

Note the volume of 0.5 N HCl consumed to reached PH 2.5. ( note volume consume 59 ml )

Total alkalinity expressed as %NaOH:

% NaOH = V1 x N x 40 x100
W x 1000

5.9 = 59 X 0.5 X 40 X 100

20 X 1000
Where:
V1 =endpoint volume of titration
N =normality of hydrochloric acid titrant
40 =molecular w eight of NaOH
W =w eight of sample tested
