To create a virtual server

Scope:  This SOP is used to create Virtual Server on F5 Load Balancer using
WebUI.

 This SOP is not used to create Virtual Server on F5 Load Balancer using
CLI mode.

Roles:  User
 Requestor
 IT support team
Prerequisites:  Service ticket has been raised.
 Ticket has been assigned to the support engineer
 Necessary approvals has been taken.
 F5 Load Balancer Login credentials.
 Virtual server IP address & FQDN details, Virtual service pool, Pool
members details
Inputs:  Service Desk ticket raised and assigned to Network WAN and
Internet Support team.
Controls:  Tickets SLAs
 Colliers Standard policy.
Outputs:  Virtual server (VIP) has been created on F5 Load balancer.
 Updates in the ticket.

1) Login to F5 Big IP load balancer with credential.

a) On the Main tab of the navigation pane, expand Local Traffic, and click Virtual
Servers. The Virtual Servers screen opens.
. b) On the upper right portion of the screen, click the Create button.
The New Virtual Server screen opens Configure the below settings

Name: - Name of the Virtual server

Destination: - The destination Host or Network

Service Port: - Select the service port as per requirement

Protocol: - As per Requirement select one of the Protocol and available form Drop down menu
In Basic configuration under Resource section add the Service pool

and Click Finished.


To create server load balancing pool

Scope:  Creating Server pool on F5 Load Balancer.


Roles:  User
 Requestor
 IT support team
Prerequisites:  Service ticket has been raised.
 Ticket has been assigned to the support engineer
 Necessary approvals has been taken.
 F5 Load Balancer Login credentials.
 Virtual service pool, Pool members details.
Inputs:  Service Desk ticket raised and assigned to Network WAN and
Internet Support team.
Controls:  Tickets SLAs
 Colliers Standard policy.
Outputs:  Created Server Pool on F5 Load balancer.
 Updates in the ticket.

a) On the Main tab of the navigation pane, expand Local Traffic, and click Pools.
The Pools screen opens.

b ) Under Basic configuration of service pool define the parameter as below


Name:- Pool Name
Load balancing method :- Select the required Load balancing method from drop down menu
c) New member: - In this add server members, specify the Node Name, pool address and
service port no.

.d) Repeat the step c to add more members in pool.

e) Click Finished.

Modifying (Add, Remove, )existing Server pool members

a) On the Main tab of the navigation pane, expand Local Traffic, and click Pools.
The Pools screen opens.
b) In the Members column, click the number shown. This lists the existing members of the
pool.

c) Click on Add/Remove/Enable and disable as per action required.

d) Click on update
To create an iRule

Scope:  Creating I Rule on F5 to modify the traffic behavior of Load Balancer.


Roles:  User
 Requestor
 IT support team
Prerequisites:  Service ticket has been raised.
 Ticket has been assigned to the support engineer
 Necessary approvals has been taken.
 F5 Load Balancer Login credentials.
 Name, condition, Event & Action details to create I Rule
Inputs:  Service Desk ticket raised and assigned to Network WAN and
Internet Support team.
Controls:  Tickets SLAs
 Colliers Standard policy.
Outputs:  Created I Rule on F5 Load balancer.
 Updates in the ticket.

a) On the Main tab of the navigation pane, expand Local Traffic, and click iRules.
The iRules screen opens.
b) In the upper right corner, click Create.

c) In the Name box Type the I rule Name and In the Definition box type the syntax
for your iRule.
d) Click Finished.

To Install SSL Certificates

Scope:  Installing SSL certificate on F5 Load Balancer for secure communication.


Roles:  User
 Requestor
 IT support team
Prerequisites:  Service ticket has been raised.
 Ticket has been assigned to the support engineer
 Necessary approvals has been taken.
Inputs:  Service Desk ticket raised and assigned to Network WAN and
Internet Support team.
Controls:  Tickets SLAs
 Colliers Standard policy.
Outputs:  SSL certificate installed on F5 Load balancer.
 Updates in the ticket.

a) Download the SSL Certificate & Intermediate CA Certificate


b) Install the SSL Certificate

Log in to the Configuration utility.

Navigate to System > File Management > SSL Certificates List and click Import.

From the Import Type list, select Certificate.

In the Certificate Name section, click Create New.

In the Certificate Name box, type a name for the SSL certificate.

In the Certificate Source section, click either Upload File or Paste Text the SSL
certificate (i.e. ssl_certificate.crt, as described in Step 1).

Click Import.
: Configure an SSL Client Profile to use the Intermediate CA Certificate

1. Log in to the Configuration utility.


2. Click Local Traffic.
3. Click Profiles.
4. Click SSL.
5. Click Client or Server.

6. Click the name of the Client SSL or Server SSL profile.


7. From the Configuration box, select Advanced.
8. If it is not already selected, select the Chain check box.
9. From the Chain box, select the appropriate chain certificate.
10. To save the modifications, Click Finished.
Troubleshooting F5 Load Balancer

Scope:  Trouble shooting techniques for F5 Load Balancer.

 Issue has been analyzed.
 Necessary approvals has been taken.
 F5 Load Balancer Login credentials.

Internet Support team.
Controls:  Tickets SLAs
 Colliers Standard policy.
Outputs:  Resolution provided to user & issue resolved.
 Updates in the ticket.

show net route – routing tables and configuration
