K-9 unit performs vital service for sheriff’s office

Jed Avery has been with
the department for 14
years and has been a K-9
handler for nearly 10 of
them.
He is one of two K-9 han-
dlers in the department,
along with Sergeant Mark
Moore.
Avery was paired with
the newest addition to the
unit, a Dutch Shepherd
named Ryker, when he
joined the unit in late
summer 2017, not long af-
ter Moore received his K-9
partner, Chase. Both dogs
are around one year old
and completed their certi-
fication at seven months.
