N = The cumulative number of STANDARD AXLES (Weight =8160 kg) to be catered for in the design in terms of "msa" ( Million Standard Axles)
A = Initial traffic in the year of completion of construction in terms of number of Commercial Vehicles Per Day (CVPD) (Weight >=3.0 mt)
= ∗( + ) P = Number of COMMERCIAL VEHICLES as per last count
x = Number of years between the last count and the year of completion of Construction.

D= Lane Distribution Factor = 1.00 For Single - Lane roads ( Carriageway width = 3.66/ 3.75 m)
'= 0.75 For Two - Lane single carriageway roads ( Carriageway width = 7.00 m)

F= Vehicle Damage Factor = 1.50 For A = 0 - 150 Initial Traffic in terms of CVPD
= 3.50 For A = 150 - 1500 Initial Traffic in terms of CVPD
= 4.50 For A = More than 1500 Initial Traffic in terms of CVPD

n= Design life in years = 5 to 15 As guided by Higher Authorities

r = Annual growth rate of Commercial Vehicles = 7.5 % of 0.075

Design Steps (i) N value in "msa" can be directly read for respective road from TRAFFIC TABLE for (1) Design life in years and (2) Initial traffic in CVPD
(ii) Obtain CBR in % ( California Bearing Ratio) of Subgrade Soil. CBR should be done in the lab only.
(iii) Using the above N value and CBR of Subgrade, the Pavement Composition Layers can be read from the CBR Tables.
