Ledger Staff Report

For the first time since 2002, the

Lady Panthers qualified for the state
tournament under second-year head
coach Audrey Bauer.
At the Class 1A state tournament
in Denver, Wiley went 1-2 in pool
play and finished the season with a
19-9 record.
“The success that these girls had
last year — a trip to state in volley-
ball, state runner-up in basketball,
and several qualifying for state in
track — has only helped us,” said
Bauer. “These girls have really
grown and matured in just one year.”
The Lady Panthers lost one of
their top hitters to graduation in out-
side hitter Tanner Parmely, as well
as middle Sandra Morales and out-
side Katherine DeWitt.
But they do return four starters in-
cluding their leading hitter 6-0 junior
Taylin Spitzer. Middle hitter Teri
Johnson, just a sophomore, returns
giving Bauer and her coaching staff
two strengths to build around.
As important, Wiley returns setter
Kacey Wells and libero Erika Rag-

Lady Eagles look to get back on track

By John Contreras
The Lamar Ledger

The Eads High School vol-

leyball program will welcome
the addition of two players
from Plainview High School
on the team this year.
Lack of players forced Plain-
view to co-op with Eads.
“The combination with
Plainview has been a positive
situation,” said Janelle Crow,
who enters her fourth year as
the head coach for Eads.
The Lady Eagles are com-
ing off a season where they
struggled with some youth
and inexperience.
Crow said it’s a different sit-
uation this year as her girls
are working hard to improve.
“We have girls who don’t
like to lose, so they are work-
ing hard and do not want to go
through the season they had
last year,” she said.
Returning starters for Eads
include Marisa Dixon, a 5-11
sophomore middle hitter and
Kailey Lane, a 5-5 senior set-
ter.
Paige Specht, a 5-5 senior
outside hitter, and Natalya
Weber, a 5-6 junior setter,
both started for Plainview last
year and will move into start-
ing roles for the Lady Eagles.
Other players Crow will also
be counting on to fill some
