INTRODUCTION

This topic defined the term "bus". It showed the development of different types of
buses from horse- drawn buses to steam buses, steam buses to trolleys, trolleys to motor
buses upto double decker bus. It also showed the history of buses in the Philippines.
Because of the growing number of passengers and commuters, Brazil has introduced in the
world the idea of Bus Rapid Transit which originated from another idea called "rail rapid
transit". Bus Rapid Transit is characterized as: having dedicated right-of-way, off-board
fare collection, prioritized intersection treatments, and platform-level boarding. Here in the
Philippines, there are agencies like: Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board
(LTFRB), Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), Land
Transportation Office (LTO), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and National
Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) that help in promulgating and administering
policies regarding the requirements needed to operate. They also help in regulating and
monitoring the operations of the buses in the Philippines.
