more flexible and the inversion result more
accurate and reliable.

2. 61 channel data-acquisition system. Most resistivity instruments have only 4, 8 or up

3. Ability to collect 62k data with 64 electrodes The data collected with conventional arrays
in less than one hour. normally are under-determined for the resistivity
inversion algorithm. This system can collect
much more data than conventional systems, thus
produces a better quality inversion imaging
through superior data resolution.

4. Ability to collect data with any conventional Operator can apply any conventional or user-
or user-designed data acquisition arrays. designed data collection arrays to acquire data.

5. Ability to combine all specified acquisition There is no need to collect data separately per
arrays together and collect data in a single acquisition array. With this system, the operator
run. can collect all data with all specified arrays in a
single run. This makes data collection more
effective and uses less time than conventional
systems.

6. The system can either run alone or linked Unlike other systems that require one main unit
with each other to perform long surveys (up to and multiple sub-units to perform long surveys
320 electrodes). (These sub-units cannot be used independently
for separate surveys). FlashRES-UNIVERSAL
can be linked together to complete a long survey
or used separately for surveys on different sites.

7. 2.5D resistivity inversion software. This produces superior resistivity inversion

imaging than 2D inversion software.

8. Displays full wave-form current and all Real-time displays data quality, and allows the

(background, contact, or instrument)
immediately. This will help operator identify data
collecting problem in the field, instead of
collecting poor quality data, which may be found
useless afterward.

10. Lightweight design. Easy to carry and handle in the field. This is

2. Cross hole survey
As figure 3 shows, this cross-hole survey was configured to find aquifer zones.
Figure 4 shows only 7 and 14 electrodes were used in the left and right borehole
respectively due to site constraints. With a special data acquisition arrangement,
2,500 data points were collected within 10 minutes.

The data points were then inverted

into a true resistivity section. It is Fig.3 Surface

and lower layers are composed of
limestone with high porosity and a
high water content, thus low resistivity.
