Setting Up Server
Computer Server:
1st Step : Changing the computer description and name of the server computer.

(1st window) 1. Click start


(2nd window) 2. Go to computer, right click and select properties.
(3rd window) 3. Click change settings.
4. In Computer description, type “serverpc” then click change.
5. In Computer name, type “server” then click ok.
6. Click ok.
7. Apply
8. Restart now.

Client Computer:
2nd Step: Changing the computer description and name of the client computer.
(1st window) 1. Go to computer, right click and select properties.
(2nd window) 2. Click change settings.
3. In computer description, type “clientpc” then click change.
4. In computer name, type “client” then select the workgroup and replace the
NETWORK with WORKGROUP then click ok.
5. Ok
6. Apply
7. Restart now

Server:
Step 3: Setting the IP address, adding roles, and setting the Network.
1. To log on, just type the password and enter.
2. Right click the connection icon at the bottom right part of the screen then
select “Network an d sharing center”.
3. Click view status.
4. Select properties.
5. Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then click properties.
6. Select “Use the following IP”, in the IP address, type ( 192.168.1.1 ), in the
Subnet mask it should be ( 255.255.255.0 ), in the default gateway, type (
192.168.1.1 ), in the preferred DNS server, type also ( 192.168.1.1 ), then
click Ok.
7. Ok.
8. Close
9. Close window
10. Proceed to Initial Configuration Task or simply search “oobe”.
11. Click add roles.

13. Select ADDS or Active Directory Domain Services

18. Click Start at the bottom left part of the screen
19. Search for “dcpromo”

22. Select “Create a new domain forest”

24. In the FQDN, type “smcc.shc.local” then click next

Next again.

lower left of the screen to go to Server Manager.

Server:
Step 4: Adding User
1. Click “Start”
2. Select “Administrative Tools”
3. Select “Active Directory Users and Computers”
4. At left side, click [+] of smcc.shc.local, right click the smcc.shc.local, select
New and Organizational Unit.
5. Type for the name “tesda” then click Ok.
6. Right click “tesda” select New and Users.
7. Input: First name, Initials, Last name, and User logon name. Don’t forget the
User logon name, then Next.
8. Uncheck “User must change password at next logon”, input password,
confirm it, then click Next.
9. Finish
10. Minimize window

Server:
Step 5: Adding Target Folder
1. Click “Start”
2. Select “Computer”
3. Double click “Local Disk (D:)
4. Right click inside, New, then Folder
5. Name the folder “clients”
6. Right click the folder, select properties
7. Select sharing
8. Click share...
9. Click dropdown arrow [∇] at left side of button “Add”, select “Everyone”,
then share.
10. Close
11. Click “Advanced Sharing”
12. Click “Permission”
13. Click “Add”, type the first two letters you enter earlier for the User logon
name (ex. ju),
14. click Check Names,
15. Ok,
16. Allow
17. Apply
18. Click “Add”
19. type “au”
20. Check Names
21. Ok
22. Allow
23. Apply
24. Ok
25. Apply
26. Ok
27. copy Network Path
28. then close the window
29. Go back to previous window “Active Directory Domain”
30. Right click the name of the User, select properties
31. Click profile, paste the Network Path to Profile path then Apply and Ok.
32. Leave window.

Server:
Step 6: Setting GPO
1. Click “Start”
2. Select “Administrative Tools” and Group Policy Management.
3. Click [+] of Forest, then [+] of Domains, then [+] of smcc.shc.local, right
click the smcc.shc.local then select “Create GPO in this domain”
4. Type name for GPO (ex. smccshc) then click Ok.
5. Select the added GPO, right click on it, select “edit”
6. click [+] of policies under User Configuration
7. click [+] of Windows Settings
8. select Folder Redirection
9. select Document, right click on it
10. select properties.
11. Click dropdown arrow [∇] , select “Basic”, paste the Network Path to the Root
Path then Apply
12. Yes
13. Ok.
14. Close window

Client:
Step 7: Changing the client from Workgroup to Domain
1. Click icon on the bottom left of the screen just like of “Start" button
2. Right click on computer
3. Select properties
4. Click change settings
5. For computer description , type “clientpc”, then click change
6. For computer name, type “client1”, then from Workgroup, change it to
Domain then type the domain of the server ( smcc.shc.local ), then Ok.
7. For the User name, type “Administrator”, then type the password of the
administrator’s account, then Ok.
8. Ok
9. Ok
10. Apply
11. Restart now
Step 8: Pinging both computers
1. Click “Start”
2. Select Run
3. For client: type ( ping 192.168.1.1 )
4. For server: type (ping 192.168.1.100)
5. To double check the IP of the client if it was changed to .100, click on the
connection icon at the bottom right part of the screen and click “Open
Network and sharing center”.
6. Click “Local Area Connection”
7. Click Details
8. You will see it there and then just click Ok if done.
9. Close the windows.

Step 9: Double checking if ever there is a problem

(on the Client)


1. Click on the connection icon at the bottom right part of the screen.
2. Select “Open Network and sharing’
3. Click on “ Change Advance Settings”
4. Make sure that Everything is turned on like Network discovery and File and
Printer sharing.
(on the server)
1. Click the connection icon, select network and sharing center.
2. Click dropdown arrow [∇] of Network Discovery
3. Make sure that it is turned on. Then Apply
4. Check again by pinging both computers.

Step 10: Logging on to the CLIENT PC


1. Make sure that the computer has already restarted.
2. After starting, click Switch User
3. Click Other User
4. Type the User logon name and password then enter.

Step 11: Setting the Document Folder of the User on the SERVER PC
1. Click start
2. Click computer
3. Select “Local Disk (D:)”
4. Double click on folder “clients”
5. You will see that it automatically create a folder, just double click on it.
6. Double click on Document
7. Click continue
8. Click security tab
9. Click continue
10. Click on Administrator
11. Apply
12. Ok
13. Ok
14. Ok
15. Close
16. Double click on Document
17. Click continue

Note: The server can already have access to the document of the clientpc but still does
not have authority to make changes there.

Client:
Step 12: Setting Permission from CLIENT PC
1. Click start
2. Select Document
3. Under Library, double click Documents and right click “My Documents”
4. Select “Properties”
5. Select “Security”
6. In the group or user name, select “Administrator”
7. Click “Edit”
8. Click “Allow”
9. Apply
10. Ok

The Folder Redirection is Finish!!!
