The WF series corebarrels are ideal for coring soft as well as hard formations. For soft
formations use core bits with face discharge waterways to prevent erosion of the core.
These corebarrels can also be used with plastic liners or mylar liners to form a triple tube
corebarrel.

The 412 core barrel is designed as an air flush core barrel, for coring soft
formations, such as limestones, sandstones and coal measures. The large annulus
between the outer tube and inner tube allows a large volume of air to be pumped
through the core barrel for clearance of the rock cuttings. These corebarrels can
also be used with plastic liners or mylar liners to form a triple tube corebarrel.

Description AQ BQ NQ HQ PQ
Parallel threaded drill rods are available in two series, DCDMA sizes AW - HW, and Metric
sizes 42 and 50mm. Both series consist of a hollow steel tube with a box thread at each end.
The tubes are connected by means of a coupler manufactured from hardened alloy steel. The
rods are mainly used for rotary coring applications, and may connect directly onto the core
barrel head, either with or without an adaptor. AW and BW rods are also sometimes used as
SPT drive rods, although we would recommend using our specially designed SPT rods for this
purpose, as they can better withstand the percussive forces generated during driving with a
trip hammer.
When choosing the diameter of the rod to be used for rotary applications consideration should
be made of the diameter of the core barrel, and the annulus in the borehole around the rod
should be minimized to generate sufficient uphole velocity of flush necessary to clear the
cuttings. Rod spanner and hoisting swivels are available for each diameter of rod.

Taper threaded drill rods are available in DCDMA sizes AWY - HWY. The rods
consist of a hollow steel tube with a box thread at each end. Male and female tool
joints manufactured from hardened alloy steel are threaded to the tube at each
end. This design gives longer life to the rods compared with parallel thraed rods,
and facilitates rapid coupling and coupling using drill rigs with a break-out device.
When choosing the diameter of the rod to be used for rotary applications
consideration should be made of the diameter of the core barrel, and the annulus in
the borehole around the rod should be minimized to generate sufficient uphole
velocity of flush necessary to clear the cuttings. Rod spanner and hoisting swivels
are available for each diameter of rod.

Friction-welded drill rods are ideal for use with down the hole hammers. The rods
consist of a high-qiuality steel tube with male and female tool joints friction welded
onto each end. The adavantage of friction-welding is that it forms a very strong
bond between the tool joints and the rod tube, to easily withstand the stresses
involved in percussive drilling. (Rods with threaded tool joints are not recommended
for DTH drilling as they tend to "climb-over" the rod tube with continued use). The
tool joints are specially surface hardened for increased wear resistance. Each tool
joint has square spanner flats (see cross section).
The rods are available in 4 standard sizes with API type connections, and are
provided with thread protectors to prevent damage to the rod ends during transport
and storage Hoisting swivels are available for each size.

Metric casing is designed to be used in conjunction with metric series core barrels TT, T2 and T6
Series, The casing has integral pin and box threads at each end, and is made from a thinner but
stronger material than the imperial sizes (W and X series). The internal diameter provides sufficient
clearance for the respective sized corebarrels to pass down. For example, a T6-116 core barrel will drill
a 116mm diameter hole which can then be cased with 116 casing. The the next core barrel in the
series, T6-101 will then fit inside the 116 casing to continue coring to a greater depth.
Casing drive heads, and casing shoes in diamond and tungsten carbide are available for each size.

W SERIES CASING
Flush-jointed casing has integral pin and box threads at each end, and unlike the X
Series does not rely on separate couplings to connect each length together. The
heavier wall section provides internal and external mating shoulders for the threads to
butt-up againts, preventing the threads climbing up under heavy torque loads. This is
the most popular type of casing used in geotechnical applications. The internal
diameter provides sufficient clearance for the respective sized corebarrels to pass
down, e.g. HWF corebarrel within HW casing, PWF corebarrel within PW casing etc.
The smaller diameters B-H are manufactured from cold drawn seamless tubes, and the
larger diameters P-Z from hot-finished seamless tubes, grade ST52 or higher. Casing
drive heads, and casing shoes in diamond and tungsten carbide are available for each
size. When ordering casing drive heads, please specify drill rod connection required.

X SERIES CASING
Flush-coupled casing uses separate couplings to connect each length together. The
wall thickness of the coupling is slighthly thicker than the mid-body section of each
tube, giving a lighter weight casing string but still the advantage of strength in the
threaded section. The internal diameter provides sufficient clearance for the respective
sized corebarrels to pass down, e.g. HWF corebarrel within HW casing, PWF corebarrel
within PW casing etc.
The smaller diameters N-H are manufactured from cold drawn seamless tubes, and the
larger diameters P-Z from hot-finished seamless tubes, grade ST52 or higher. Casing

The Automatic Trip Hammer is designed for carrying out the Standard
Penetration Test (SPT) to BS 1377: Part 9: 1990. SPT Drive Rods and a
Split Tube Sampler are connected to base of the anvil, and driven into
the ground by the falling weight.
The hammer comprises a drop weight of 63.5 kg and a pick-up and self-
tripping mechanism that ensures the weight has a free fall of exactly
760mm.
The inner shaft acts as a guide on which the weight drops with minimal
resistance and strikes the anvil squarely.
The trip hammer is supplied with a Safety retaining bolt to prevent the
weight from sliding when the hammer is not in use or during transport.
9 Anvil * 4901 15
For Standard Penetration Test. This split tube sampler is designed for taking
soil samples at the bottom of a cleared borehole using the Automatic Trip
Hammer and SPT drive rods. The split tube is held together with a ball valve
adaptor and a hardened steel drive shoe. The ball valve adaptor prevents
samples from being washed out of the sampler when it is withdrawn from the
borehole. A 60 degree nose cone or long solid rod with 60 degree point is
available for carrying out SPT (c) tests in gravel and loose material.
For Standard Penetration Test. This is a heavy duty version of the standard
split tube sampler and is designed for taking soil samples at the bottom of a
cleared borehole using the Automatic Trip Hammer and SPT drive rods. The split
tube is held together with a ball valve adaptor and a hardened steel drive shoe.
The ball valve adaptor prevents samples from being washed out of the sampler
when it is withdrawn from the borehole. Basket retainers, trap valves and plastic
liners are available as an option with this type of sampler.
The sampler is available in two diameters: 2" (to BS 1377 : Part 9: 1990 or
U.S. ASTM Standards) and 3".
The split tube is forged and heat-treated and has a large driving shoulder at the
top end to prevent premature breakage under heavy driving conditions. The two
halves of the split tube lock together by means of a step in the profile of the
tube, thus preventing bowing of the tube. The threads are coarse, square type
for quick and easy release of the drive shoe when necessary.
The rod spanner can also be used to suspend the drive rods at the top
of the casing, during sampling operations.
A rod swivel hoist is also available for lowering and rtraising the rods in
the bore hole.
Thin-walled "Shelby" tube samplers are used for soils that are particularly
sensitive to sampling disturbance, and consist of a thin-walled stainless steel
tube whose lower edge is chamfered to form a cutting edge. The area ratio is
less than 10%.
These samplers are suitable only for fine soils up to a firm consistency, and
free from large particles. They generally give Class 1 undisturbed samples in
all fine cohesive soils, including sensitive clays, provided that the soil has not
been disturbed by sinking the borehole.
Shelby tube samplers are available in two standard diameters, 3" and 4", but
other diameters can be manufactured by special request.
The drive head contains a non-return valve to allow free exit of water and/or
air above the sample. The sample tube is attached to the head by means of
four screws
2 Corecatcher 309
6 Corecatcher 316
This unique, air or water-operated piston sampler has been designed and
extensively test proven in the field, yielding truly undisturbed Class 1
samples and high-production sampling.
How it works:
The GUS Sampler is assembled on a drill rod and lowered to the bottom of a
clean, cased or self-supporting, borehole. A water or air swivel is attached
with a hose line coupled to the swivel and the pressure pump. As the water or
air pressure is applied at approximately 100 –600 P.S.I, the piston in the
head of the assembly (16) forces the thin wall sample tube (1) into the soft
underlying soil or clay materials to take the sample.
Once the sampler reaches the end of its maximum travel, the water or air
used for pressing exhausts through a relief hole, and returns immediately to
the surface. This is a signal to the operator that the sample has been taken to
its maximum depth.
Depending on the materials being sampled, the sampling may take only a
few seconds or as much as one minute to reach its maximum travel of 24”.
After the sample has been taken, the rods and sampler are pulled to the
surface and laid out on trestles for removal of the sample tube. The sample
tube is rotated in 3 turns is an anti-clockwise direction which releases the
“vacuum lock”created over the sample in the sample tube and allows for
easy removal of the sample tube containing the sample. A new sample tube
is then installed on the sample head and the procedure repeated.
•Borehole diameter need not be larger than the sampler size in use.
•No need for hoses in the borehole. Water or air is delivered directly through
the drillrods.
•Drill rig is not necessary for sampling, however, hoist is required to lift tools
and sampler from the borehole.
Strong steel flush jointed casing ideal for use in general site
investigation works with cable percussion rigs. Heavy-duty drive heads
and casing shoes with hardened bevel edge can be supplied with either
male or female threads, depending on whether the casing is used in
"pin-up" or "pin-down" position.
The deflated packer is lowered into the drilled borehole and is then
inflated with neutral gas or water injected through an inflation line. A
borehole is thus isolated and hydrological tests or cement grouting
works can be conducted in this area.
Thanks to their modular design, all Geopro packers offer reliable and
easy operation. Inflatable sleeves can be replaced in the field and
single packers are easily adapted into double packers.
