Arohan Round 1: HR crisis management situation

Situation: There are two organizations – ABC Corp. and XYZ Corp. ABC Corp is located in
Gurgaon and was incorporated in 2005. It follows a vertical organizational structure
(hierarchical). The organization also follows a very formal chain of reporting system. Norms and
protocols are given highest priority, which if violated can be faced with demerit points or
warnings. The organization maintains a record of all the employees’ details starting from their
daily arrival timings to the daily work completion level of the employees. In short, the
organization is completely based on formal relationships.

XYZ Corp. is located in Chennai and was incorporated in 2009. It follows a flat organization
structure. The organization had minimum to no hierarchy and everyone had almost equal level
of authority and responsibility. All the decision taken in the organization involved all the
employees or their consent is taken in one way or other. The employees are given the liberty to
choose their way or methodology to complete the task. The organization has no fixed work
hours and employees have flexible work timings. The communication system in the
organization is very flexible and the employees can even directly approach the top
management with their queries.

These two organizations are going to merge in next five months. Considering it’s a merger and
not an acquisition there is a challenge to work out its structural changes in order to maintain
the culture, work-ethics and ability to respond quickly and effectively to client needs
throughout this period of rapid growth.

Issues to be addressed

 Management of human capital in terms of financials


 What should be the new organization structure of the merger?
 Who stays and who goes?
 What steps should be taken to integrate the two cultures?/ How you will integrate the
two cultures ?

You are supposed to submit a Video/PPT showing how you will tackle the issues.
Rules for Round 1:

 Modes of submission - Video / PPT (Slides for PPT). Bonus points for creativity
 For video submission, all the registered members of the team should be part of the video
 Duration of the Video should be 5-7 minutes and PPT should not exceed more than 7 slides

dHRuva and you are from IIM Udaipur then the File name should be dHRuva_IIMU)
 Submission should be made before 28th October 11:59:59 Pm. Post this submission link will be
freezed
 Results will be declared on 1st November on dHRuva official Facebook page:

 Shortlisted teams will be required to visit campus on 11th November 2017 for final round
 Rules of the contest are binding and all decisions of the organizers will be final and binding
