Course: Estimating and Valuation Time : 3hrs.
Candidates are required to give their answers in their own words as far
as practicable.
The figures in the margin indicate full marks.
Attempt all the questions.
1. a) Define estimating. What are its types and in which conditions they are 8
used.
b) Describe the various methods of taking out quantities of building work? 7
2. a) Prepare a preliminary estimate for the building project from the 8
following data collected. Residential building of four storied having the
total carpet area of 500 sq.m. and the wall area that is covered by the
walls is 8% of carpet area and that for circulation area occupied by a
passage, varandah, stair and toilet-bathroom is 10% of total plinth area.
The provision for architectural design is 10% of the civil work,
provision for water supply and sanitary is 6% respectively. The
provision for contingencies and supervision is made 5% of the total cost
respectively. The floor height of the one flat of the building is 3m and
the rate of cubic content of that area is Rs. 3200.
b) What do you understand by term administrative approval and technical 7
sanctions. Why administrative approval is required in the construction
of any project or works?
3. a) Why rate analysis is necessary in any construction project and what are 7
the factor that affect the rate analysis?
b) Calculate the volume of earth work for the portion of road having 8
formation width of 9m. It has the side slope of 2:1 in banking and 15:1
in cutting. The X-slope and the depth of cutting and filling at the centers
at various chainages are given below. Negative sign indicates cutting.

4. Prepare an analysis of rates for the B/W work in the superstructure of the 8
building with (1:4) cement mortar for 150 sq.m.
a) Describe what is scrap value and where it is used in estimating and 7
valuation works.
5. a) A building is situated by the side of a main road in a city on a land 8
500m2. The build up portion is provided with water supply. Sanitary
and electric fittings the age of the building is 30 years. Workout the
valuation of the property.
Assume plinth area rate as Rs 350/m2 and life of the building is 100 years .
Take cost of land to be Rs 250 per m2.
b) What is valuation and what are its principles? 7
6. Estimate the quantities of following item of works for a slab culvert given 15
below. Assume missing data.
i) E/W in excavation in foundation
ii) Brickwork in (1:4) cement mortar
iii) PCC (1:2:4) in wearing coat
iv) PCC (1:3:6) in foundation
v) PCC (1:2:4) for RCC
vi) Reinforcement bar
