WHS Management Principles

BUSS 1053
Assessment 1-Weekly Continuous Assessment 2017

Topic question:
Describe the “business case” for managing WHS. Include the 3
main categories.
Work health and safety is an important legal requirement for the whole

society, organization and industry. Its objective is to maximize the health

of the staff, human needs and well-being (Archer 2015, P.5). Therefore,

the importance of the health management and efficiency of the whole

safety environment can be divided into moral, legal and financial reasons.

Firstly, the legal reasons are related to the maintenance of the safety and

health of employees (civil law), penalties (criminal law) and prevention

(local authorities). Requiring all organizations to ensure the safety and

wellbeing of employees and carry out work related activities without

causing harm to them.

Secondly, the economic reasons include reducing the likelihood of the

accidents, reducing the company risk costs (direct and indirect costs).

Obviously, an efficient management and healthy environment is an

important source of the productivity for the enterprise, some disease and
unhealthy factors which associated with work will not only influence the

business normal operation but also increase the pressure and morale

between the colleague (Forbes 2013), bring the double loss of the spirit

and financial.

Finally, the moral responsibility is to protect employees be free from hurt.

All companies have obligation to take care of their employee’s safety and

health. like each family wants to see their partner who coming home with

a healthy body, either than work related disease and safety problems. It is

unacceptable that company put interests on the top and neglects

employees’ safety.
