FibeAir® IP-20 CeraOS 8.2 Release Notes for All-Outdoor Products

1. Introduction

1.1 Product Overview

This section provides a brief overview of the IP-20 products described in this
document. A separate Technical Description is available for each product,
providing a full description of the individual product and its specifications.

1.1.1 FibeAir IP-20C

Ceragon’s FibeAir IP-20C sets a new standard in microwave transmission,
combining MultiCore radio technology with QPSK to 2048 QAM modulation.
IP-20C breaks capacity barriers, offering a virtual fiber solution in licensed
frequency bands. Its versatility makes it ideal for a wide variety of cost-effective
deployment scenarios including macrocell backhaul, small-cell aggregation, and
emerging fronthaul applications.
IP-20C can deliver multi-Gbps capacity on a single frequency channel, setting a
new standard for efficient spectrum use. IP-20C’s unique MultiCore radio
architecture is based on an advanced parallel radio processing engine, built
around Ceragon’s in-house chipsets. The result is a superior radio
performance with reduced power consumption and form-factor.
The IP-20C services model is premised on supporting the standard MEF
services (MEF 6, 10), and builds upon this support by the use of very high
granularity and flexibility. Operationally, the IP-20C Ethernet services model
is designed to offer a rich feature set combined with simple and user-friendly
configuration, enabling users to plan, activate, and maintain any packet-based
network scenario.
The FibeAir series pay-as-you-go activation key model further enables
operators to build for the future by adding capacity and functionality over
time to meet the needs of network growth without requiring additional
hardware. Additionally, IP-20C’s MultiCore architecture enables operators to
start with a single core with the option of enabling the second core remotely
when network capacity requirements increase.

1.1.2 FibeAir IP-20S

FibeAir IP-20S provides the same basic feature set as the IP-20C, including
QPSK to 2048 QAM modulation, the advanced IP-20 Ethernet services model,
ease of installation and operation, and more, in a single-carrier package.

1.1.3 FibeAir IP-20E

FibeAir IP-20E is a high-capacity, all-outdoor Ethernet backhaul product
designed to operate in the E-Band frequency range. IP-20E provides over
1 Gbps capacity over 250 MHz channels, with modulations of 4 – 128 QAM.
IP-20E utilizes the same CeraOS software as the rest of the FibeAir IP-20
platform, enabling it to provide the same Ethernet services model and other
advanced radio, Ethernet, and management features as IP-20C and IP-20S.

5. Feature Release Notes

This section describes significant feature requirements and limitations. For a
full description of supported features, refer to the relevant Technical
Description.
Feature List of limitations
Header De-Duplication  Header De-Duplication must be disabled before performing a software upgrade
and enabled after the upgrade is complete.
MIMO  ATPC is not supported in MIMO configurations.
LAG  Any LAG configured on the unit must be removed before a SW version
downgrade to 7.5.2 will be executed.
 Multi-Carrier ABC cannot be LAG or any other logical group Service Point
Script 1501 (80 MHz script)  The user can configure the system to work up to profile 10 even though the
highest supported modulation for this script in this release is profile 8 (1024
QAM).
Script 1501 (80 MHz script)  For 2+0 IP-20C configurations, the 80 MHz script must be assigned to both
carriers. An IP-20C cannot be configured to operate with the 80MHz script on
one of the carriers and a different script on the other carrier.
 80 MHz scripts do not operate in Multi-Carrier ABC mode.
 80 MHz scripts are only supported on wide-channel radios, as indicated by a
“w” in the Marketing Model.
 MIMO is not supported for 80 MHz channels.
Script 1700 (IP-20E script)  The user can configure the system to work up to profile 6, even though the
highest supported modulation for this script in this release is profile 5 (128
QAM).
Script 1508 & 1509  The maximum ACM profile must be greater than 3 in order to work with Multi-
Carrier ABC
Software Upgrade During software installation:
 DO NOT reboot the unit during the SW installation process. As soon as the
process has been successfully completed, the unit reboots automatically.
 In rare cases, the installation process can take up to 30 minutes.
 Only in the event that the installation has not been successfully completed and
more than 30 minutes have passed can the unit be rebooted.
RADIUS/HSB Protection RADIUS authentication is not supported with HSB radio protection.

8. IP-20C Interoperability with other Ceragon

Products
1. This release supports 1+0 links between IP-20S and IP-20G units on 10,
20, and 30 MHz channels using non-XPIC scripts without ATPC and
without Multi-Carrier ABC.
2. Other than the links described above, interoperability over the radio
between IP-20C/S and IP-20N/G/GX+RMC-A/B, as well as interoperability
between IP-20C and IP-20S, is not supported for this SW Release.
3. MIMO 4x4 is only supported when both Master and Slave share the same
SW Release. The upgrade procedure must be performed simultaneously
on the Master and Slave units.

9. Version Upgrade Compatibility

The following table indicates software upgrade compatibility. In some cases,
you cannot upgrade directly from one version to another. Rather, you must
upgrade to an intermediate version, and then to the higher version. For
example, as shown in the table, to upgrade from version 7.0 to version 8.2, you
must first upgrade from version 7.0 to version 7.5.2, then from version 7.5.2 to
version 7.7.5, then from version 7.7.5 to version 8.0, and finally, from version
8.0 to version 8.2.
It is recommended to perform each upgrade on all units in the link and then to
perform the additional upgrade on all units in the link.

9.1.1 Multi-Carrier ABC Version Compatibility

When working with IP-20C’s carriers in 2+0 SP/DP mode, the user can
activate the Multi-Carrier ABC mechanism which enables optimal packet per
packet distribution over the radios†.
 In release C7.7.5, a revision of this mechanism was implemented to
improve future SW maintainability.
 The following table describes several SW over-the-link compatibility
scenarios of the Multi-Carrier ABC mechanism.
Site A SW version Site B SW version Multi-Carrier ABC Compatibility
Case 1 Prior to C7.7.5 Prior to C7.7.5 OK
Case 2 Prior to C7.7.5 C7.7.5 Not Compatible
Case 3 C7.7.5 C7.7.5 or higher OK

For a complete description of the Multi-Carrier ABC feature, refer to the IP-20C Technical
Description.
