Cable Inventory Management System(CIMS)

Objective:

As per the BSNLCO guidelines, the cable inventory details are to be captured
for each exchange system and the mapping of the cables to be done w r t the
exchange-end MDFs and the out-door-end Pillar/DPs/Joints. ITPC has examined the
pre-existing Kerala Circle Package known as DCRMS and found to be meeting the
objectives of BSNL Corporate office. As it takes time for establishing the necessary
hardware and other resources in addition to adapting the existing package for Data
center wise Operations, it is proposed to implement data collection framework as
detailed in this document.

It is also desired to collect the network elements (MDF/Pillar/DP/Joint..etc)

locality details along with the geographical parameters of latitude and longitude.

Once the details are captured and inventory is ready, these details are to be
tightly integrated with the clarity system and the transactions of the clarity system
should be in sync with the inventory system.

The ultimate goal is to get a clear visibility of the network elements along
with its occupancy out of the total capacity and also should be able to identify the
faults status and utilize the network to the optimum level.

Execution:

The ITPC South Data centre, Hyderabad team has developed the following modules
to meet this requirement, and will be hosting shortly in the ITPC intermediate
reports server portal.

It has extracted the clarity source system data w r t the

a) Circle, SSA, Exchange code details

b) Each exchange wise- MDFs/Pillars/DPs and enabled the details in the portal
as detailed in the following screen shots.

In case of any modifications w r t these parameters along with locality details

and the geographical parameters of latitude and longitude, the clarity
application needs to be updated and subsequently, this module gathers those
modified details with certain periodicity.
This CIMS has the following data entry modules.

c) Cables master data entry

d) Joints master data entry

e) Cables mapping entries with network elements of MDF/Pillar/DP

The details of these modules are given below with the screen shots.

1) CIMS – Home Page – which is enabled to the field executives (JTO/SDE/DE) only
2) CIMS - Modules

3) Exchange Details - w r t the selected Circle - SSA

4) MDF Master

5) Pillar Master
6) DP Master:

7) Cable/Joint Master:
8) Cable Master Entry:
9) Joint Master Entry:

10) Capturing of Longitude/Latitude of network elements

A mobile app is under development for accepting lat/long of each

network element, Cable joint, exchange location, customer location etc for
properly mapping into maps/cable diagrams and further utilities associated
with the data like feasibility check. Once deployed, field units are expected to
capture the require data and push the same to CDR. Detailed procedure shall
be communicated separately.
