Specification-
Client’s needs:
The client gave me a brief to follow throughout the creation of this product, as it will help
me keep up to date in what I need to be doing, also I had a meeting with the client and the
client gave me a few things what I need to include in this and also told me about the things I
am allowed to design myself these are the client meeting nots I took in the meeting:
• Fizzy drink Inc.
• Produce a new energy drink advert- the concept is your own.
• 30-60 seconds long- every second is payed for, so the longer the advert the more
expensive it will be.
• Brainstorm the name of your drink.
• Research competitors. – pricing, quality o9f graphics, presentations.
• Identify target audience – news says there’s a concern for children in schools-
consider this.
• Label- essential
• Colour scheme.
• Create a suitable logo and can label.
• Dope sheets required to decide on scene.
• Film raw material footage.
• Edit raw material in premiere to create advert.
• After effects can be used but no training available on software.
• A diary will be needed.
• Format for websites.
Brainstorming:
I needed to create a brainstorm for the name of my energy drink I came up with 5-10
different names which would be suitable for an energy drink, I went for a theme for fast
things because energy drinks increase your energy, and then I needed to come up with a
special ingredient I will say is in my energy drink. The reason I have done the brainstorming
is, so my client can choose another name for my energy drink if she doesn’t like the one I
have chosen.
Pre-visualisation:
Once I have filmed the advert I will have to edit it because I
will just have the raw footage and will need to edit it to
make it the advert which, will make sure that it is the right
time for what the client has requested, which is 30-60
seconds (60 seconds being quite long). And I can then add
all the sound effects I want the advert to have at the end,
as it will be easier to add the sound effects in last because I
will know exactly where they will be going but if I do it before I might have to cut them out if
I have recorded too much for the amount of time it needs to be. I will also add the backing
music I want to be in the background and add any voice overs I have recorded.
Legal and ethical consideration:
For the filming the advert if I have actors/actresses in the advert I will have to take into
consideration the legal and ethical aspects. As if I am filming in a public area then whoever is
in the cameras view will have to sign some paper work saying that it is ok for them to be
filmed.
Also, if I use any backing music to go into the background of my advert, then I will have to
make sure it is copyright free and if it is copyrighted, and I really want that particular
backing music I will ask the person who owns that music and if they say that I cannot use it
then I will have to find a different music clip as I don’t want to break any laws, by using
copyrighted music clips.
Video sequence specification:
Audience-
The client said that when think about the target audience that the news says that people are
concerned about school children having energy drink as they have some ingredients in the
energy drinks which are not good for children, also that young children should be having
that much caffeine at a young age. For my target audience, I will be aiming it at 16-25 year
olds as I think that these are the ages of people who buy the most energy drinks as they will
be needing the energy for the work they have to do to get their grades. Also, I have chosen
this age bracket because I am familiar with and I will know a lot more about what they like. I
will use people who are in this age bracket in the advert because then it will be more
appealing for the audience. So, I have to make sure not to make it too boring that they will
not want to watch it so there will be not much speaking because I feel that this will make
the advert drag, and make the younger audience (my target audience) not want to watch
the whole thing there for them not knowing what the advert is about.
Script-
I will create a script for my product, a script is the instructions and dialogue for the actresses
and actors within a media related recording. The script I will create will show what each
actor/actress will be saying and when they will be saying that. It will also have the actions
the actors/actresses will be doing when they are acting in the advert. Also, the good thing
about writing a script before you start the filming is that everything you will be doing and
what the actors will be saying is already planned out and you don’t
have to worry about anyone not knowing what they are doing, also
planning the script before means that I can work out the timings for
the advert, and if I do all the planning before the filming it means I
won't waste much time when filming and editing the advert as I will
know exactly what I will be doing.
In the script, there will be bold text and then text which is in
brackets and italics. The text which will be in bold is what the
actor/actress will be saying in the advert. And the text in italics and
brackets is the actions the actor/actress will be preforming. In the
script, there will also be all the sound effects what could happen
during the advert. In my client meeting the client said I have to consider my target audience,
I decided on young adults (16-25), I need to use language which is suitable for the younger
ages of my target audience. Today's teenagers have adapted the English language for
example the words did not they have shortened it to didn't, so I will use language like this so
it will appeal to my target audience more.
For my advert, I will have someone with their head down on a table and then the can with
the label I have created on it sliding towards them and then the person will open the can
and then poor it into a glass and then drink some of it. I will mostly music over the top of the
advert with many be a voice over, over the top of it saying the name of the energy drink and
the strap line I have chosen for my energy drink.
Another idea for my script is I will have the view of the camera like it is someone’s eyes and
have them going into their house after a long day, picking up the energy drink I am
promoting and then picking their bag up again and going out, I like this idea because I shows
the viewers someone who has a busy life what could be like them and them rushing around
to get to the next thing they have to do and the energy drink is the time what is keeping
them going.
I am planning on not having too much speaking in my advert this is because I think for an
energy drink the needs to be fast, so I will put upbeat backing music in the background of
the advert but make sure that it is copyright free, as I don’t want to break any laws. And I
will have a voice recording to say my strap line what I have created for this energy drink and
with the logo at the end making sure the viewers remember this energy drink and will make
them want to go out and buy it. I will also create a dope sheet which will help me plan out
the different scenes.
Storyboards-
For my storyboards, I will soon have to come up with an idea for the video I will create. I will
have to come up with sufficient storyboards this will allow me to properly plan everything
out that I will be creating to do with my energy drink can advert. I have already designed the
label which will go on my can and the logo for the energy drink, and I have also created both
of them. I will soon I have design the whole advert which will include dope sheets, timings,
props etc. I will do all the before creating the advert, so the client can check she is happy
with what I am doing as there will be a time when I am creating the advert where the client
can't change anything.
Technical consideration-
Platform:
The advert I will be creating will be an advert on the television as
well as I could put it on websites like YouTube, this means that
my advert will be in the 3GP file format. It is good that my advert
wont only be put on television that it will be on the internet as
well, because if someone only sees a little bit of the advert on TV
then they can just search the name of my energy drink which is
Cheetah and then it will come up the advert so they can watch the
whole thing.
File Size:
I will be putting my advertisement on YouTube, so I have to make sure that my video is the
correct size for YouTubes standards. The current standard for YouTube is “2 GB for uploads
from YouTube web page, and to 20 GB if Java-based Advanced Uploader is used.” I have to
make sure that my file size in 3GP is 20GB or below for it to be able to be uploaded to the
YouTube website.
Putting my advert online means that I will need to make sure that my file size isn’t too big
because then when the user wants to watch my advert it will load quite quickly where as if
the file size was really big it would take forever to load and the user would get bored and
would not watch the advert.
Compression:
When I will be compressing my advert for television format, I
will be using the lossless technique due to the increasing size
of televisions and also HD TVs. I will do this because I don’t
want my video to look low quality because this wouldn’t make
people want to go out and buy the drink as they would think if
the advert is of a low quality then the drink would be a low
quality too. When uploading my advert to websites, I could use
a lossy compression technique as the videos say on YouTube
don’t have to be a very high quality.
Streaming method:
My advert will be downloaded
because it is a pre-recorded video so
the user would not be able to stream
the video, but the user could stream it
if they were watching live TV say on
the ITVs website where you can watch
live TV form a mobile devise. My advert would be advertised between television
programmes so it will be progressive streaming, it will be this because it will allow the user
to click on the advert and then it would take them to the website page which tells them
about the energy drink.
Media player:
When I have completed the filming of my adverts and it
is ready to be downloaded then I will download my
video, then after it has been downloaded I will be able
to open the advert in all default media players these
include: QuickTime and Windows Media Player.
